Korean occupation of actual Japanese home islands is both apt and fitting. It also relieves the demographic issue. Lots of nice Best Koreans.

Well, bringing in Best Korea will trigger the Americans for sure!

I dunno, but Nobu seems to believe the Worst Koreans need to boost their ego, and it won't be the last time that a country saw war as a solution, so maybe there's really something to it.

And it makes a twisted kind of sense when you take into account Worst Korean plans to develop aircraft carriers and sub launched ballistic missiles.

It is also an indicator of Japanese resolve and Korean priorities. North Korea has plans to develop aircraft carriers?

The reasons why Japan may be unwilling or unable (not sure about this one, considering the Korean garrison might consist of 2 or 3 people, total) to contest Takeshima's sovereignty without Washington leading the way have wider Pacific implications.

A Japan unwilling to do so is unlikely to contest Taiwan's sovereignty without Washington leading the way, either.

Best Korea = North Korea, Worst Korea = South Korea, TN lore in action.

Rocks can trigger crisis between US allies: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perejil_Island_crisis but rarely will they spill into armed conflict as both sides understand that being the aggressor may push the US hand and the reward is a rock, after all.

But they certainly point to rifts that are important enough to drive defence spending and can be blown out of proportion for internal reasons (Austria-Hungary saw a European war as a solution for its internal problems, and World War 1 started...)

On the other hand, the ROK is confronted with a similar problem as the one that bedeviled the USSR, it's time to modernise as they are running out of time: https://carnegieendowment.org/2021/06/29/south-korea-s-military-needs-bold-reforms-to-overcome-shrinking-population-pub-84822

Yeah, Japan is usually portrayed as an example of demographic disaster, Worst Korea's situation in that regard is much, much worse. While Japan has fertility rate of about 1,4, Worst Korea is below 1, or at least was in recent years. And the Japanese military doesn't depend on conscripts.

Damn, I've been getting that wrong all this time? :D

Didn't know that about their demographic. And I thought Japan's number was worrying. Korea's number sounds like cultural, prolonged suicide.

It might be that Asia knows a thing or two about citizen armies.

Northeast Asia in general is going to know a thing or two about low fertility as well, unfortunately. That demographic bomb hitting Japan, Korea, and China doesn't seem to discriminate.

Enough to fear them, given the potential for such armies to upend order and unity. Various rebellions in the Tokugawa period, and the Taiping rebel army come to mind.

The Red Guards might be considered a hybrid citizen army in their own right as well. Their mandate was essentially the destruction of the old order.

Asia not understanding the notion of the citizen may be a function of Asia not worshipping it, either.
