Ivanhoe Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Some tentative takeway points from https://www.howtogeek.com/742602/what-happens-if-i-dont-upgrade-to-windows-11/ Quote But after October 14, 2025, running Windows 10 will become a lot riskier. That’s because Microsoft will stop releasing new security updates for Windows 10 on that date. Whenever Windows 11 launches, Microsoft will likely offer Windows 10 users a chance to upgrade to Windows 11 for free from within Windows Update in Settings. If you decline the update, you might still see pop-up reminders asking you to upgrade to Windows 11, unless your PC doesn’t support it. (primarily meaning a TPM v2.0 chip) Like previous major “Feature Updates” to Windows 10, we guess that you’ll be able to decline or defer any offer Microsoft makes to upgrade your system by not starting the upgrade process in Windows Update. Recalling the rollout of Win10, Microsoft made it annoying to block the Win7 to Win10 upgrade. Ironically, disabling your TPM chip in your BIOS/UEFI would seem to permanently prevent the upgrade, until you are ready (at which point you can enable your TPM and manually perform the upgrade when you are ready). The TPM thing almost seems intended to prevent creation of a Win11 virtual machine, but the nerds are on the case; https://gearupwindows.com/bypass-tpm-2-0-and-secure-boot-on-windows-11-iso/ Amusingly, the bottom of the top article provides a link to https://www.howtogeek.com/739179/your-pc-wont-support-windows-11-maybe-its-time-to-try-linux/ and that's kinda my plan. Only run Win11 as a VM when needed. I haven't read any gripes yet, but I can't help but wonder whether Redmond's "Every Other Edition Is A Disaster" doctrine will be reenacted.
lucklucky Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 At this time if was not for specific software i use, i already be in Linux. Some nice distros around.
Murph Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Windows 11 is getting more and more spyware like, more and more evil. Now you CANNOT install it on a laptop unless you have a working webcam which you SHALL allow Microsquish to have complete and total control over. Chris Titus addresses lots of Winders things in his videos. I will not allow that virus/malware that is called Windows 11 in my home.
DB Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 That's simply not going to swing with corporate laptops. No fucking way that my company is going to let MS look through a camera without permission, and even more so a microphone.

That may result in Win11 Enterprise relinquishing absolute control to the owners rather than the Empire. That stuff ain't happening in DOD, and DOD is a user base of like 3M. Must be a workaround somehow. Of course, with the current crop of flag officers, we may be required to install spyware from the PLA instead.

I am surprised that our flag officers have not already sworn allegiance to the PLA, Milley apparently has. But I would like to somehow get a copy or three of Enterprise level Windows 11 so I can avoid all the spy and adware present.

CarnelianClout Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 On my old Windows machine I upgraded from 10 to 11. Stylistically speaking, I find 11 to be superior, though like all Windows operating systems especially the newer ones - is filled to the brim with spyware. I switched to MacOS a few months back, and have no intentions on returning to Windows.
