The correct number was $4.2 million, all from Harlow: https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/press/releases/durbin-reveals-omissions-of-gifted-private-travel-to-justice-clarence-thomas-from-harlan-crow# $4.2 Million over 20 years. Ok. Now. Is Harlow subject to any cases linked to the court? And to Murphs point, how does a congressionally passed law affect the supreme court? Can you explain that? Here's an example. I pronounce that you must, from henceforth, on each month's 15th day, pay $10 to the charity of my choice. Do I have the power to make you do that? Congress has the same power to force the Supreme Court in that regard.

What were you selling? Were you that cheap? $200,000 a year is peanuts compared to what many rich folks spend on flights in private jets. What do you think the cost is for you and a friend to fly to Europe on a Gulf-stream V? A friend was working a job for a client who wanted a steak In Big Bend. They flew out to the resort there from Atlanta. What do you think that round trip flight cost? Edited August 1, 2024 by rmgill

I’m guessing inflation is simply a thing you do not notice at all. For Thomas that is pretty close to his yearly salary, which he never the less has publicly complained about. Another bad sign to my mind is that Thomas covered up 20 years of gifts until he was caught. That does not encourage faith in his ethics. The fact that as far as I can tell, his only rule violation was NOT reporting that he was bought and paid for by Harlow inspires even less confidence in SCOTUS “ethics”. Had he reported all the gifts, it would have raised some eyebrows but as far as I can tell broken zero SCOTUS rules. Again, that is the kind of behavior I expect from a court in Venezuela.

Can you point to even one instance when Thomas didn't vote as one would expect him to? This spittle laced hatred of Thomas, looking for any excuse to punish him, is right up there with Kenesaw Mountain Landis treating "Shoeless" Joe Jackson equally guilty of throwing the 1919 world series, even though Jackson had a career series both in the field and the plate. His great crime, according to Landis, Jackson took some money. Edited August 1, 2024 by DKTanker
Mr King Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 if Biden is not involved in the day to day operations of the White House, why is he still president? But lets be honest, Biden has been nothing more than a puppet for a while now.

His great crime, according to Landis, Jackson took some money. I cannot know how he makes his decisions one way or another. Nor can you. Can you think of any political or judiciary situation where someone gifting you nearly the equivalent of your salary looks legitimate? If this was a liberal justice, you would be fine with this situation ? How about if it was Kamala? I cannot understand the mindset where judges at the highest level being gifted the equivalent of their income is not an ethics concern, especially when HE TRIED TO COVER IT UP. We only know about this because HE WAS CAUGHT.

I think the fact he was taking hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and hiding the fact is malfeasance enough, especially at the SC level. I doubt any of the conservative voices here would be so casual if it was kagan doing this.

While Thomas and Ginsburg both received personal hospitality (and properly disclosed it according to the long-standing rules that are now under attack), Ginsburg’s conduct raised far more red flags than his, including actual recusal violations. To equate the two wouldn’t be fair to Justice Thomas. https://fixthecourt.com/2023/04/justices-financial-disclosure-omissions-this-will-be-updated-as-additional-info-becomes-available/ Quote On page 6 of her SCOTUS nominee disclosure, Jackson admits that as a lower court judge she left off trips to Berkeley Law and the Aspen Institute; a teaching gig at George Washington University; four board positions; information on her daughters’ college fund; and “self-employed consulting income that my spouse periodically receives from consulting on medical malpractice cases.”

Quote At least one Uniformed Division officer was initially assigned to investigate the cocaine incident. But after he told his supervisors, including Cheatle and Acting Secret Service Director Ron Rowe, who was deputy director at the time, that he wanted to follow a certain crime-scene investigative protocol, he was taken off the case, according to a source within the Secret Service community familiar with the circumstances of his removal. . Quote Cheatle became close to the Biden family while serving on Vice President Joe Biden’s protective detail – so close that Biden tapped Cheatle for the director job in 2022, in part because of her close relationship to first lady Jill Biden.
Murph Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 It is just looking worse and worse for them. But it is the Obama/Biden corruption on full display.

So... what's the point? She had a bad proposal? Ok, call her out on it. rmgill was overreacting and implying Biden was trying to do something he wasn't. There's a reason "Thou shalt not bear false witness" is a commandment. The least we can do is be honest about someone we disagree with. That's a courtesy most here that actively post on TN can't be bothered with... We should also be careful on here about casting aspersions over nearly half of the country. The Democratic Party may have a lot of positions we disagree with... but is it evil? Many of the people that vote that way certainly aren't. I know many. Many of them agree with sentiments here regarding certain issues (the border, the modern 'woke' agenda getting pushed, DEI, etc.). Our system in this country only works when we work together. Both sides calling the other evil does nothing to make that job easier... and just guarantees we continue to slip towards a point of collapse. Yes, yes it is! Let us count the ways shall we. 1. Nancy Pelosi's new book "The Art of Power: My Story as America's First Woman Speaker of the House." The transcript of N.P.R.'s interview with her is available which Mrs. Pelosi states and stresses that power should never be given up by a liberal politician. DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS! The Federal government will have the power to rule over you in all aspects of your life if the Democratic Party is in power! According to Democrats there is no power, no God, but the god of government! 2. https://news3lv.com/news/nation-world/no-legitimate-basis-judiciary-committee-blasts-biden-admin-directive-telling-fbi-to-investigate-school-board-meetings March 22nd 2023 The House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government released an interim report Tuesday, pertaining to its investigation into the FBI's alleged targeting of parents at school board meetings. The report contested that there was "no legitimate basis" for Attorney General Merrick Garland's October 2021 memorandum directing federal law enforcement to begin working with local law enforcement to root out "a disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators" stemming from contentious school board meetings. The committee's investigation into whether the federal government was targeting disgruntled parents at school board meetings began following Garland's memo, which critics insist was spurred by a National School Boards Association (NSBA) letter that described parental actions at school board meetings as "domestic terrorism and hate crimes." The NSBA letter was later retracted by the organization amid immense backlash. Let's get real, the protest from parents was about the ABSOLUTE LIES AND HATRED of the L.G.B.T. . ad infinitum, ad nauseam directed at their children. If you do not think this is a problem, The California State Assembly has approved a bill, AB 957, making gender affirmation a factor to be considered in child custody cases. The bill, passed on Friday by a vote of 57-16, was previously approved by the California Senate with a vote of 30-9. "Parents , who fail to acknowledge and support their child's gender transition, could face potential consequences, including the loss of custody right to another parent or even the state itself." 3. The Democratic Party is a lie and a travesty to a good economy "The War on Poverty" started by L.B.J. is a prime example. Another good example among many is the housing crises created by the Fannie Mae and Community Reinvestment Act. Read The N.Y. Times article on Fannie Mae on Sept. 30, 1999 on what will happen, and it did. 4. Look what happens when the Democratic Party attains power. California state wise and large cities such as Baltimore, Gary, etc. 5. Encouraging racial/ ethnic/gender boundaries and hatred is a specialty of the Democratic Party.. It is the Democratic Party that encourages and considers skin pigment and gender over as one famous black man said about the content of character. Not to mention common sense. No adult who claims morality and intelligence could vote for anyone on today's Democratic Party ticket, a party of evil, absolute power and absolute control!
