Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying's report on what's going on in Panama was rather interesting.

I think this is it:

Snopes reverses 'fact check' after Ashley Biden reveals in letter to judge her stolen diary is authentic

Quote

Snopes has reversed their previous "fact-check" which claimed that a diary purported to have been written by the president's daughter Ashley Biden was a unproven to be authentic, indicating it was a fake. In a letter provided by Ashley Biden to a court during sentencing of those convicted for having stolen the diary, Biden herself confirmed the diary's authenticity.

The diary, which resulted in scrutiny of President Joe Biden over a quote in the book that alleged he had taken "inappropriate" showers with his daughter, was found to have been stolen by two individuals and sold to Project Veritas, an investigative journalism outlet which declined to publish its contents.

The letter confirming veracity was written by the young Biden to Judge Laura Taylor Swain during the sentencing hearing for Aimee Harris, who was convicted in the diary theft and distribution. The fact-check organization Snopes, which previously cast doubts on the diary's authenticity, stated the diary is authentic following that letter.

On Friday, counterterror analyst Noor Dahri noted that “Maher Bitar has been appointed as president #Biden's special counsel. He also serves as the director of intelligence and defense programs in the #UnitedStates National Security Council.” This explains a great deal of why the Biden regime has just betrayed Israel in its hour of deepest need.

Back when he was a student at Georgetown University, Bitar was president of that university’s Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter. In the aftermath of Oct. 7, SJP has emerged as one of the most strident and actively menacing pro-Hamas groups on college and university campuses nationwide. A photo has emerged of young Bitar in his student days, dressed all in black and sporting a keffiyeh, raising a clenched fist in a room decorated with a sign reading “Divest From Israeli Apartheid.”

Tariffs are always bad, they are always anti-free market.  In this particular case it is even more onerous as the fascistic US government is so intent on mandating that US automakers produce, and sell, electric vehicles (that the consumer market does not want) it has decided to make the importation of EVs even more expensive through tariffs.  The net result is to make EVs even more expensive and less desirable for the average car owner.  Moreover, as automakers are forced to produce more and more unwanted EVs, IC vehicles will become scarcer and their prices will rise even faster than they are currently.
Hot damn, don't you just love it when governments get involved in the market place?  I look forward to hearing about the imposition of five year plans, they're just right around the corner.

Tarriffs and Taxes And Subsidies are all an evil and over used.

All have a limited place, but only to the extent they are strictly necessary. Tariffs on chinese goods make sense as they are not playing fair on the open market. There is a limit of course. The same on light trucks from Turkey over the chicken tax that are evaded by importing passenger vans and ripping the seats out is illustrative of some of the absurdity.

The same goes for imports from canada that are legal if shipped by rail but not if moved by truck.

The fist of the federal government on the scales of commerce is not making it more regular however.

The only legitimate reason for a tariff is for raising revenues.

It can be to offset unfair trade practices. It can be a balancing effect or assert an overt protectionist angle.

Taxing one’s own production of goods but not foreign goods to an equivalent amount can have a deleterious effect on one’s own industries.

Murica has once built its indusutrial might behind the wall of tariffs. It lost much of its industrial might when the international 'free market' came. The rest of the developed world followed the US in deindustrialization to various degrees, one of the effects was creating the very problem the US is now struggling with.

I still think it should be Chuck Norris.

In your opinions, who would (for both sides) be the best candidates, for your country?

Chuck Norris as Prime Minister would be a great choice. Can you have an American as Prime Minister? With Churchill you had a 1/2 American. May as go all the way with Chuck!

Fair?  Fair has nothing to do with a free market.  If Country A decides to hobble itself for virtue signalling reasons and Country B does not, that's just something Country B has to deal with.  It certainly is not fair to consumers of Country B to pay government mandated higher costs for products that people in Countries A, C, and D enjoy at lower prices.

Of course the current western penchant for driving energy costs up beyond absurd beggars belief. But then the current regime really is working to advance chinese market dominance and contract the west. See also the regrowth movement of the greens and communists.

As to fair, well, look at the chicken tax. It turned into protectionism and then backfired on Ford when they turned around and attempted to evade it and ended up owing millions in back duties.

Ironic that I'm now reading of advance planning for using those Ford Transit type of courier vans as a way around expected future bans of new car sales with IC engines. People may well be fitting out courier vans into station wagons.
