Ivanhoe
Austin Orders Military Stand Down to Address Challenge of Extremism in the Ranks > U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE > Defense Department News Quote Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has ordered a DOD-wide stand down to discuss the problem of extremism in the ranks, Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said today. Austin and Army Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with service civilian leaders and service chiefs to discuss the problem of extremism. Kirby noted that some of the extremists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 were active duty service members and others were military veterans. Cue the laugh track; Quote The DOD Instruction expressly prohibits military personnel from actively advocating for and participating in supremacist, extremist or criminal gang doctrine, ideology or causes, Kirby said. The military has tolerated gang members in its ranks for like 40 years now. And call me cynical, but I very much doubt a member of the Nation Of Islam will ever be questioned, nor will anyone be questioned about participation in Antifa etc.

I continue to believe that "the ends justify the means" is a morally bankrupt argument, and I don't care which side is cheating, the system should prevent it. You get this much better than an awful lot of USians. If you came here and pretended to be a Democrat, you could vote, no doubt.

Ivanhoe
https://legalinsurrection.com/2021/02/biden-administration-drops-trump-plan-to-track-campus-confucius-institutes/ Quote Campus ‘Confucius Institutes’ have been repeatedly accused of spreading Chinese Communist Party propaganda in the United States for years. Trump took action on this issue last year, following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. Biden is now turning back the clock and reversing this policy, which makes no sense. Over the past year, there have been multiple cases of people in American academia arrested for unlawful contact with China, even at the top of Harvard’s chemistry department. nitflegal
Fun update. Remember several months past when I was writing about China shutting down non human primate exports to shut down pharma research in the West, particularly the USA? And Trump slapped them with procedural impacts that affected their export ability? China eventually blinked and we started getting primates for biomedical research in the early fall for the last repro studies for the Covid vaccines at the wire. Fun fact, Biden took those restrictions of Trump's off the table right after the inauguration. China just shut down exports of NHP's to the USA this week. The Pharma industry and academia is irritated to say the least. . .

There are very stringent regulations in the USA and EU that require all kinds of behavioral and welfare elements and justifiably so. In China, not so much. It has led to what I consider a very appropriate prejudice against those who have worked at most facilities in China because if you can compromise ethically to their level of treatment we won't let you near our labs for fear of what ethical lapses you might be comfortable with. For sure. ISTR reading something about some US involvement in some virus lab in China for a number of years but they pulled out in something like 2016 for a reason I can't quite recall what was given. This was when I was looking around for the source of the Wuhan virus outbreak. In some ways, the dynamic seems like how other industries will go offshore to circumvent domestic laws. Environment protection add to cost for car production? Build cars in Mexico. Too many financial regulations and taxes? Shift some finance operation to some tax haven country. Too many animal rights groups or conservative groups blocking biology research? Set up lab in China. And whose to say any findings made by the research in China is not desired and obtained secretly by some in the west? There may be a little dirty carrot there that perhaps US or EU regulations can't fully block if coming in from the outside.
Ivanhoe
So apparently Biden claimed in his CNN town hall that there wasn't any vaccine when Biden took office. Despite the fact that he'd already received two doses before the inauguration. Just wow.

nitflegal
The fascinating thing to watch is that the MSM is covering for his gaffes as gaffes, which is actually true as I don't think Biden is actively lying that much, and ignoring the implication that he is so cognitively compromised that he can't properly explain himself or put thoughts together coherently. It adds a certain spin to him having his VP take over calls with foreign leaders. . .
