Problem is, other than Biden getting a payday, there is nothing in Ukraine that merits bumbling into WWIII. You have to remember Putin is nuts. And the Ukraine is a failed klepto state, of no use or need for the US. While I understand the American public not wanting to get involved in yet another war. If you don't stop Putin in Ukraine, then you have to decide if it is worth stopping him in Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Bulgaria. At this point it's the best case for the US, there is no need for US soldiers on the ground, the majority of equipment is 2nd line or surplus to requirements. When I read about battles in the Second Sino Japanese War, I do have a sentiment that sides more on the Chinese for some battles. Some other battles its a sentiment of them having been foolishly fated into such a total war. But I'm rather tempted to speculate a what-if where the Nationalists Chinese that ran off to Chongqing merge into the Wang Regime and the war ending in 1940/41.. as oppose to the current historical record of the CCP winning it all, along with the Korean peninsula being cut in half. I think the possibility of the Wang Regime being worse then reality's outcome rather unlikely.

More to the point, the USSR and Japan were always going to come to blows. The only question is in which contest that eventually happened. It may be a Japan that won in China would have been excellently placed to help Nazi Germany in 1941, which would have been in nobodies interest. The point was the pivot point of history of the Kuomintang coming out on top over Mao. Japan and Russia already came to blows. Japan going at Russia alone with no other outside forces would have been very bad for Russia. If Japan had allied with Germany and they had left the rest of the Anglo American partners out of it, Russia would have had a very bad time. It is worrying if our forces get hollowed out There's litte chance of hollowing out anyone's forces. The US especially hsa enough surplus lying about the supply hundreds of tanks. The Bradley IFV fleet is being replaced so not on;y can the ones in storage go, but ones that were going to go into storage or scrap. Similarly, F-16s are being replaced in US and several foreign air forces with F-35s. Ammunition orders and production capacitiies are increasing, which will be a good ting in the long run too. The USAF is large enough that they could easily send a couple pof hundred combat aircraft to Ukraine - which is two or three times more than they could staff. The Army could send nearly half it's current stocks and still have enough for training until it got replaced with newer and better on schedule. It won't be neeed sa much against China anyway. What will be needed is modern airpower, whcich as I said the US has lots, and the USN which doesn't have much that can be useful to Ukraine.
