US Domestic mass produced beer is an adult alternative to soda.  A light beer has fewer calories and sugar, etc than a can of soda.  It's nice when mowing the lawn or similar housework crap.  I often prefer something like a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy for summer drudgery, but Coors Light isn't bad for the same purpose.  Use the correct tools for the mission at hand.  S/F....Ken M

When we trained in Ft Lewis/Yakima, we brought our own beer for drinking, the terrible and cheap US beer was for beer fights and practical jokes.

There's plenty of good American beer, from regional stuff to local stuff to decent national stuff like Sam Adams.  The buy local movement is great for fresh good beer.  And thankfully they're finally past the "turbohopbomber 2020" phase of bitter swill.  S/F....Ken M

Texas is, sadly, not a beer state. Aside from the low-rent swill from Tranheiser Busch etc., beer coolers here are almost 50% the fruity crap plus 10 different types of overhopped IPAs.

The only drinkable stuff at my local Walmart is Killians Red and Modelo Negra, and they're out half the time*. I used to pick up an occasional sixer of Corona Familiar, but Corona is part of the Tranheiser Busch family, so no-go.

* Walmart definitely is showing the adverse effects of Sam Walton no longer being at the helm. Nobody is paying attention to inventory; stuff that sells out in 2 days is replenished weekly at best, stuff that never sells sits there for weeks/months taking up space and refrigeration.

I think this well sourced documentary movie stated that you could get Coors in Texarkana!

You can find REAL German bier at a Central Market near you.  It's what I do when I want a beer.

No Shiner?  S/F...Ken M

I really liked Shiner when I first had it and happily drank it for many years.  Then one night I ordered it and it was different;  drier tasting, more carbonated, less flavor.  Nearly 20 years later I read in the Dallas Morning News an article about an executive from a large Mexican beer maker and this wonderful little brewery he had discovered in Shiner, Texas.  He went back home and convinced his bosses to buy it and they did.  After their purchase they replaced all the antique brewing equipment with state of the art stuff.  This happened just before I noticed the change in Shiner Bock.  I have been disappointed with it ever since.  It's not that it's bad, it's just not what it was.

True. its been 70years recovering from Prohibition.

One of the travesties of prohibition was a law enforcement effort to go around cutting down groves of trees that had varietals specific to making the better ciders.

Find a distributor that carries some odd stuff thats good. Patronize them. Support them. You’ll grow the market.

German beer? Drink it as long as you can, because in Germany the non-alcoholic fruit mixes are winning the market. thanks to the woke crowd and the transpeople.

This is German beer today:

BABO Probierpaket – BABO blue

When they have it, its usually Shiner Bock which is mediocre or that moronic grapefruit sheisse. Rarely they will have Shiner Light Blonde which is a drinkable light beer. I can sometimes get their 1909 lager; nothing special, but better than the usual swill. Their one excellent beer is their Oktoberfest, when available I will pick up multiple 12-packs.

The one good Texican brewery is St Arnold's, but scarce as hen's teeth.

In the 20 years I was in Colorado, Iowa developed a surprisingly good and wide spread crop of local breweries, added to the regional craft beers (like Lienenkugels or Deschutez) and there's no real reason to drink industrial lager.  Although, there are times when I want an adult beverage that is cheap and not sweet or overly carbonated like a Coors Light or Michelob Ultra, that usually happens on a hot humid day after mowing the lawn or working on the garden.
