It is not so much which translation or version of the Bible one uses but the way one lives their life reading their Bible. One does not need to be knowledgeable of ancient languages to understand what the Bible is and means.

When children see and hear their parents reading the Bible and living their lives  to Biblical principles then the translation and/or version is not all that important.

I mean... if you don't fully understand what's being said that could impact how you live.

I'm torn on this.  Raised in very conservative Lutheran churches I get the importance of every person being able to read the Bible.  That was driven home quite a bit.

I'm also reminded of some of the great pastors I listened to growing up (who I didn't fully appreciate at the time) who drove home the point with certain scripture that the actual meaning isn't quite there in the English translations until you know the nuances of the original language.  I'm thankful for that insight all these years later.

I'm in full agreement about what really matters is how you live your life.  Talking with a friend lately it's frustrating how Christianity has become an identity so many people use to describe themselves (like being a Texan, or Norwegian, or whatever) instead of a way that they live their life.  Part of that could simply be these quick and brief readings of scripture that's probably a little more nuanced then it seems at first glance.

By that logic, you can't even read Don Quixote or Grimms Fairy Tales.

It's not that you can't nor shouldn't... just that you're missing out on some of the meaning (it's a pretty common thing to hear folks speak of how translations, even of modern writings, don't fully encompass what the original language is saying).

I was fortunate that in the churches I grew up in it was expected that pastors learned Greek, Hebrew, and Latin.  Those churches are dying off, though.  I was shocked to hear of other local churches where the pastors had no grasp of any of those languages (let alone the nuance of their older versions).

One of the benefits of modern society is that it's not as big of a deal, I suppose.  Easy enough to look up commentary on what verses say, what the original text might have meant, and the trouble with translation.  They do call it Bible 'Study' for a reason.

There are plenty of black Americans who are part NA. Spain's North American market for African slaves was mostly the tribes for quite some time.

'Red Indians' keeping black slaves? I wonder when Ed Zwick or 'Skip' Gates Jr will make a movie or show about that...

Several references to slave trading involving the Comancheros, I think, and there are several other movies that cover the tendency to make off with women and children, but I can't quite put my finger on one at the moment.

Apart, you know, from "The Last of the Mohicans", that is.

Or does it only count if the muse directs a "leftie" to make the movie?

The Outlaw Josey Wales make that point.

If it generates a squeal of outrage, then yes

I wouldn't put any faith into any movie involving this stuff, but I've recently read a few pieces about the Comanche, and that is an interesting and extremely un-PC part of history.

Definitely older books going 'bye bye'. My County MAIN library used to be old and dreary but it was stacked to the rafters with 2 floors of books of all kinds (lotsa older novels, even off the wall stuff like The Centurions by Larteguy etc). Now the 'spanking brand new' Library that was built in it's place is nice and sunny, with lots of sitting room but it's virtually 'bare' for a 'Main' library---older books in non fiction are apprently gone or sold off (things like Samuel Elliott Morrison's WW2 navy history; the official US Army history of WW2; Time Life's WW2 and Vietnam series, the US Marine Corps in Vietnam official histories  are all gone. (of course some of the above are of questionable use, but still).

These days it's all about metrics, books that are checked out frequently stay, those that aren't checked out very frequently lose their shelf space for newer books. The nice thing is that the tech that enables circulation tracking also makes it possible for libraries to have a robust intra-library loan program, I use it fairly often with my local library.  I also am pleasantly surprised when instead of getting a book from another library they just buy a copy.

There's probably a lot more of this that doesn't get reported;

The mother of an unnamed female Oklahoma student (E.G.) sued her daughter’s school on May 25, 2023, after the girl was “attacked and severely beaten” by a “male transgender student in the designated girls’ bathroom” on October 26, 2022. The lawsuit alleges Edmond Memorial High School allowed the male student to use the girls’ bathroom in violation of an Oklahoma law enacted on May 25, 2022.

The alleged assault occurred five days after “the Edmond Police remove[d] the male transgender student from the girls’ bathroom and search[ed] him for a weapon after” he allegedly made threats against E.G.

I can recommend a book I’m  80% through that covers a LOT of slave ownership (not the main subject of the book) by many Native American tribes - the slaves included Blacks, Whites and fellow Native Americans. It’s a fairly slow read but very interesting.

This.  In today's day and age it's irrelevant what books your local location has.  ILL lets you get anything if it's in the system (and as you mention, sometimes they'll just outright buy it).  Libraries nowadays are just amazing... a shame I'm hearing that in some places funds are being cut. 😢

ETA - Had one really nice interaction just before COVID at my old library.  Nowadays you can look up the books you want, put in a request online, and then walk in and pick them up off a shelf.  I was doing this for years.  Pick up the latest batch of books and one has a note in it "please see the desk before checking out".  I walk up a bit confused... and the lady behind the desk tells me the book I wanted to borrow was no longer up to the physical standard they keep at the library... and asked if I just wanted to keep it.  "Umm... yeah!", I said.  She took off the little tag and I now owned another book (that was still in great condition).  😆

The Black Imperialism of White Europe

https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/egypt-bans-dutch-archaeologists-leiden-museum-afrocentric-exhibition-1234670731/

Quote

“The Rijksmuseum van Oudheden has been working at Saqqara since 1975,” Weijland told CNN. “For the upcoming season, the museum has been denied the permit to excavate here.”

Weijland added that the museum is attempting to “open the dialogue” with the Egyptian Antiquities Service about the ban. The aim of the “Kemet” exhibition, according to Weijland, was to “show and understand the depiction of ancient Egypt and the messages in music by black artists,” and to “show what scientific, Egyptological research can tell us about ancient Egypt and Nubia.”

The ancient Nubian empire in northeast Africa extended from Aswan, Egypt, down to Khartoum, the modern-day capital of Sudan. Nubia hosted several significant empires, the most important being the Kingdom of Kush, whose so-called “Black Pharaohs” ruled Egypt in the 8th century BCE in the 25th Dynasty. Per the museum’s website, the “Kemet” show examined “the influence of ancient Egypt and Nubia … in the works of a multitude of musicians of African descent, including icons of jazz such as Miles Davis and Sun Ra and contemporary artists such as Beyoncé and Rihanna.”

The show was met with criticism almost immediately upon opening. The Leiden National Museum of Antiquities’ social media accounts were bombarded with negative comments, some of which expressed veiled or explicit distaste over the show’s imagery of dark-skinned ancient Egyptians. In response to the backlash, the museum added a note on its website with additional information on its curatorial goals, as well as a warning that any offensive or racist comments posted to its social channels will be deleted.

Yes, but I ain't seen Skip Gates Jr get up on his high horse about this in his PBS Show 'Finding Your Roots'; it's all agitprop. He seemed to take delight in the discomfort in the subject being an ancestor of a slave owner or doing how do you feel/what would you say that you're  ancestor was a slave...but for things like Chris Meloni (who's ancestors were indeed sold into slavery by Indians) or Tony Shalhoub (who's ancestors were persecuted by that era's equivalent of DAESH), 'let's not dwell on things that happened in the past...'

Instagram, the popular social-media site owned by Meta Platforms, helps connect and promote a vast network of accounts openly devoted to the commission and purchase of underage-sex content, according to investigations by The Wall Street Journal and researchers at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Pedophiles have long used the internet, but unlike the forums and file-transfer services that cater to people who have interest in illicit content, Instagram doesn’t merely host these activities. Its algorithms promote them. Instagram connects pedophiles and guides them to content sellers via recommendation systems that excel at linking those who share niche interests, the Journal and the academic researchers found.

And for Musk critics, I can see why he is bothersome;

Quote

The Stanford team found 128 accounts offering to sell child-sex-abuse material on Twitter, less than a third the number they found on Instagram, which has a far larger overall user base than Twitter. Twitter didn’t recommend such accounts to the same degree as Instagram, and it took them down far more quickly, the team found.

That whole thing about post-Musk Twitter enabling hate speech etc. is the usual LW smokescreen for far worse.

Quote

Sarah Adams, a Canadian mother of two, has built an Instagram audience discussing child exploitation and the dangers of oversharing on social media. Given her focus, Adams’ followers sometimes send her disturbing things they’ve encountered on the platform. In February, she said, one messaged her with an account branded with the term “incest toddlers.”

Adams said she accessed the account—a collection of pro-incest memes with more than 10,000 followers—for only the few seconds that it took to report to Instagram, then tried to forget about it. But over the course of the next few days, she began hearing from horrified parents. When they looked at Adams’ Instagram profile, she said they were being recommended “incest toddlers” as a result of Adams’ contact with the account.

This doesn't seem accidental.

Quote

In theory, this same tightness of the pedophile community on Instagram should make it easier for Instagram to map out the network and take steps to combat it. Documents previously reviewed by the Journal show that Meta has done this sort of work in the past to suppress account networks it deems harmful, such as with accounts promoting election delegitimization in the U.S. after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

They had no difficulty identifying and canceling accounts belonging to people posting about Ivermectin, but somehow can't figure out how to stop pedo porn.

So the idea about the West being ruled by pedophiles starts looking less like a conspiracy theory with every day.

Those concerned about the global erosion of free speech have been rightly shocked by Ireland’s Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill. Under its authoritarian provisions, anyone who offends someone with certain protected characteristics – such as race, religion and gender – could be imprisoned for up to five years.

This is deeply worrying. But it is nothing compared with what is being put forward by the government of the Dominican Republic. In 2021, the Ministry of Women, in alliance with a deputy from the left-wing Democratic Choice party, proposed an unbelievably draconian piece of hate-crime legislation. This law promises to penalise anyone who ‘incites hatred’ against a group or person due to their ‘gender identity’ or other protected characteristics, ‘with 30 years in prison and fines of up to one hundred [times the] minimum wage’. This hate-crime proposal could soon be passed into law as part of the Dominican Penal Code – the latest iteration of which is currently passing through the legislature.

Nothing to worry about;

Jon Uhler, a therapist who treats sex offenders, says that in his experience if a man feels comfortable performing sexual dance in a skimpy women’s outfit for children, he’s likely extremely sexually deviant and “poses a significant risk to women and children.”

Uhler told The Epoch Times that men who want to perform for kids in sexy women’s outfits have likely watched hundreds of hours of deviant pornography that reshapes the brain to become a sexual predator.

.

Quote

Uhler draws his experience from 15 years spent treating hundreds of sex offenders, working with more than 4,000 sex offenders in several contexts, and spending more than 13,000 clinical contact hours with sex offenders.

He said he has treated sex offenders both inside and outside of prison.

Not all drag queens perform at “child-friendly” events but verifying the criminal history of a large number of performers would be nearly impossible without a nationwide drag group’s cooperation.

Drag performers usually use stage names, wear flamboyant costumes that disguise their identity, and put on heavy makeup that further camouflages their normal appearance. Their real names rarely appear in promotional materials.

The Epoch Times emailed all 28 American chapters of Drag Queen Story Hour and the national hub to ask how many members they have, and whether performers have their backgrounds checked before being scheduled to read with children.

None of them responded to requests for information.

.

Quote

In the past four years, at least eight American drag performers accused of sexual crimes have worked with children, The Epoch Times has found. Seven of these men have been convicted of child sexual abuse, child pornography, and prostitution.

Three of these men participated in Drag Queen Story Hour events for children. Two took part in a reality TV competition. One taught children as a dance instructor. Another mentored young boys wanting to learn how to perform in drag. Yet another performed in “all-ages” drag shows.

One drag performer was arrested in 2012 for running a child sex-trafficking operation. He became a transgender activist in prison.

A man charged with sexual crimes was president of an activist group that facilitated Drag Queen Story Hours.

It’s important to remember that these men are only the ones who got caught, Uhler said.
