Nobu Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Having been heavily influenced by a culture since childhood in which tipping could be considered rude, the ritual has always felt awkward. The difference now is that it is becoming an expensive exercise in keeping up with the Takahashis in various ways. It also became a little dangerous when, stupidly, I decided to visit an ATM on foot (instead of the drive-thru) after midnight a few weeks ago, because the pile of cash I was using to stuff tip envelopes was inadequate. There are piles of of envelopes on the table--one conveying our family greetings for the holidays, they other containing cash tributes. We at least have not gone the hire a photographer route to shoot the first, but there was enough cash contained in the second to have hired Annie Leibovitz to do so.
JasonJ Posted December 31, 2019 Posted December 31, 2019 To tip or not to tip... Sounds like another downgrade to; you say Japn culture supa better so FU, tip it man!
