Markus Becker Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 It's not over until the fat lady sings. I guess Harold is telling us the June I&I is looking like another Corona victim.
Harold Jones Posted March 23, 2020 Author Posted March 23, 2020 Yup, they are closed till apr 5th and then will be announcing next steps. Of course airfare looks cheap enough now that you could take a gamble on an early booking if you wanted to.
Leo Niehorster Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Consider this: Will you be able to enter the country? And if so, will they let you back into the EU afterwards? --Leo
John_Ford Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I’m in for October. Was planning on Interschutz in Hannover in June but that has been cancelled.
Markus Becker Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 I'm good for the 2nd half of September and the 1st of October. That is my annual Octoberfest avoidance holiday.
Harold Jones Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 Octoberfest should be extremely easy to avoid this year. I assume the other beer fest are following the lead of Munich.
Harold Jones Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 Yes the one in Munich. I remember from my time in Stuttgart that the city of Bad Cannstatt also had a fairly large fest that ran at the same time, not sure if it or any others are also cancelled.
Markus Becker Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 The Wasn. It is not cancelled yet but they expect that any time.
JasonJ Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 No Oktoberfest... They have those in Japan too. But can't expect it here either now. Sorry to interject that. Carry on.
Harold Jones Posted April 27, 2020 Author Posted April 27, 2020 We have a bunch around here as well, doubt if they'll go on. They haven't said anything about this one https://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/ it's more of an industry/beer nerd thing than a mass party but it is insanely popular, it usually sells out in less than an hour when online sales start. At over $100 a pop I haven't ever actually been tempted to attend.

Unless you're the driver, than no point. But it isn't Deusche Maybe the others of the bunch you mention are With the quality German (and Austria, Belgium, or where ever else from central Europe some of it may be coming from) sausages, pretzel, with good Beer. That combination. With correct atmosphere. Trains mean no driver needed. http://osaka-oktoberfest.com/ The Osaka website has a message saying that it was cancelled for this year because of the virus.
Nobu Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I'm good for the 2nd half of September and the 1st of October. That is my annual Octoberfest avoidance holiday. Have encountered it by accident while traveling in the past, and California versions of it closer to home. Beer does not always bring out the best in people.
Ssnake Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 Beer does not always bring out the best in people. It certainly brings out half-digested beer, and chunks.
Harold Jones Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Beer does not always bring out the best in people. It certainly brings out half-digested beer, and chunks. The first time I went to Munich for the October Fest I found it by following the trail of vomit from u-bahn station to the fest grounds.
Nobu Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 The large groups of drunk college students at some California versions of it are entertaining, but the German-ness gets lost in the behavior along the way. Parking lot vomiting etiquette is to not get any on a vehicle. Parking lot urination etiquette varies between the sexes.
Harold Jones Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 I prefer the ones that don't try too hard to ape the Munich fest. Some of the local ones to me have been around long enough that they have their own traditions and those work better than the ones that try to be authentic.
Harold Jones Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Aquino weekend is postponed until September. Given the uncertainties that are likely to affect travel for at least the remainder of the year I think we can consider the 2020 I&I cancelled.
