Ssnake Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Looks like I'll have to live up to my big mouth... They are currently remodelling the tank hall, so don't be surprised if it doesn't work out.
Markus Becker Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 For the Euro Zone: Last weekend of April in Vienna (25th, 26th), Austrian Army History Museum? Discussed this with BansheeOne when we met on Saturday. We're both up for this!I think I can do that weekend too.
sunday Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 That museum is worth a couple of visits. It's quite near the central railway station, too, and there are a few bearable hotels at walking distance.
BansheeOne Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Everywhere in Europe may be COVID-19 central by that time. But yeah, something to keep in mind for any travel plans.
Markus Becker Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) Vienna may be COVID-19 central by April. So what? Only the Good die young, we'll be ok. Can I bring a plus one? A recently retired neighbor is interested. Edited February 27, 2020 by Markus Becker
BansheeOne Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Well in this case it seems only the old and those in bad health die.
sunday Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Seen that way, COVID-19 could be the end of the Grate Sight was we known it, a bunch of unhealthy-ish, old-ish men. Bit Cranky-ish too, but that has nothing to do with Corona-Chan.
Ssnake Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I need to warn against too high expectations. I haven't received a reply yet, not even a reading confirmation to my email, and even if I got a positive reply the tank hall would still be under construction.
Ssnake Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 The HGM would offer us a guided tour on April 25, one week before officially reopening (May 1st). I am however inclined to shift the main event (why I'm visiting Vienna in the first place) to end of October since that bloody virus creates a rather fluid situation with unpredictable consequences for international travel.

Leo Niehorster Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 I am inclined to agree with you. Hopefully by October things will have settled down a bit. I fear the Toronto I&I will have to be postponed, also.--Leo
sunday Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 You're a brave man, Mr. Jones... Nah, Vienna has a lot of other things for WAGs to see while tanknetters enjoy those grate steal beasts.
Ssnake Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 I'll cast the final decision in the coming days, NLT Wednesday. That's not to say that you couldn't go there, naturally. But it seems at least likely that eSim Games will shift the annual Steel Beasts Conference to October, which was the professional background for me to visit Vienna in the first place. Not that there aren't a lot of other good, tasty reasons to go there.
Markus Becker Posted March 6, 2020 Posted March 6, 2020 Anyone interested in Militracks 2020, May 16th and 17th in the Netherlands? https://www.oorlogsmuseum.nl/de/events/militracks/
Harold Jones Posted March 6, 2020 Author Posted March 6, 2020 (edited) You're a brave man, Mr. Jones... I've actually already promised to take her to Curacao for our Anniversary and even I am not dumb enough to change that. Edited March 6, 2020 by Harold Jones

Ssnake Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 So, we've shifted our conference to October, at which point the HGM should be open again in any case. What's more, on Monday 26 (Austrian National Holiday) the ÖBH (Army) will have a bit of a public show day in, as I understood it, Zwölfaxing, the barracks of the Austrian Armor School. It's supposed to be a historical show/display and the details are usually made public only at relatively short notice (probably reflecting a, umm, dynamic planning process).I'll post news about this event here in this thread as I receive them. There is a non-zero possibiity that parts of eSim Games might still congregate in Vienna for an internal meeting, and if some people banked on this somewhat special visit to the HGM prior to its official reopening and they think they can't make it in October, well, let me know this week if I should pursue the private tour on Sat, Apr 25. If the stars align in just the right pattern and you blow your bone flutes of madness R'lyeh shall rise again and we'll make this happen after all, Corona be damned.
DB Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 I think that force majeur is effective. I feel like I am in a badly-written Black Mirror episode. I think we also now know why the chaps are address now.
Ssnake Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 There is a non-zero possibiity that parts of eSim Games might still congregate in Vienna for an internal meeting Well, the possibility for that dropped to zero, if that wasn't obvious already.
bojan Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 First time in years I have spring free and SHTF. Oh well, next time...
Harold Jones Posted March 19, 2020 Author Posted March 19, 2020 The fat lady hasn't started singing on Ontario in June but I think I hear her warming up in the wings.
