Adam Peter Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 On November 10, 2019, a private research group, Lost 52 Project, announced it had found the wreck of Grayback off the coast of Okinawa, in June 2019. The submarine sits upright on the bottom in 1,400 feet (430 m) of water, with severe damage aft of the conning tower, consistent with reports of a direct bomb hit in that area. Said to be searched for in the wrong area due to a wrong translation of an intercepted Japanese message. Grayback ranked 20th among all submarines in total tonnage sunk with 63,835 tons and 24th in number of ships sunk with 14. The submarine and crew had received two Navy Unit Commendations for their seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth war patrols.Grayback received eight battle stars for World War II service. Stuart Galbraith Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 I remember her being mentioned in the old silent service game manual, back in the 1980's. Seems in pretty good shape all things considered.

Stuart Galbraith Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 It was announced at the beginning of the month that HMS Urge was found off Malta, having been lost in 1942, probably to a mine.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-50260427
