Dawes
From yesterday's DoD contract announcements: Colt's Manufacturing Co. LLC, West Hartford, Connecticut, was awarded a $41,924,594 firm-fixed-price Foreign Military Sales (Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Federated States of Micronesia, Hungary, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macedonia, Marshall Islands, Palau, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Tunisia) contract for production for the M4 and M4A1 carbines. One bid was solicited with one bid received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 18, 2024. U.S. Army Contracting Command, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-19-D-0116). Somewhat surprised that Hungary and Macedonia are on the M4 bandwagon. shep854
Part of why Colt is suspending civilian sales; their capacity for low-sales rifles will be used to fill this contract--and turn profit.
Markus Becker
German MSM reports: https://www.dw.com/de/colt-nimmt-das-sturmgewehr-ar-15-vom-us-markt/a-50523138 "One of the deadliest weapons vanishes in the US from shops. ... Now the AR 15 of the legendary arms manufacturer Colt will no longer be made." Ignorance or bias or both.
rmgill
Over on Says Uncle, he says this. I suspect he's probably close to the mark. Colt getting out of the civilian AR market The AP reported it. And internet gun people were complaining that Colt is abandoning principles or whatever. Well, if you read Colt’s release on the issue, it’s for business purposes. Translated for you: Gun people are cheap and are buying other cheaper derp tier guns and not ours at a price we like. We’re out. Now if the German news media thinks that AR-15s are no longer being made because Colt itself is dropping from the market...they really don't understand reality over here. Almost every gun owner in Canada has at least one Norinco they are the cheapest guns out here unless Al Jolson Trudeau gets his way. I think Colin had his mishap with a T97. Five minutes of research with google are too much to ask! Those journalists have to bang out a maximum of headlines. Also a cheap way to throw non-US bodies into the fight for the US government.
