Murph Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 From another inmate at a Federal guesthouse: https://www.city-journal.org/jeffrey-epstein Millennials who were kids when Vince Foster was "suicided" will still get a chuckle from this:Now one for the MTV generation: Here are a few things I know firsthand about being in jail. First and foremost, you have virtually no control over your life and surroundings. You can’t get so much as an aspirin without authorization. In most jails, you can’t wear a belt, or shoelaces, or keep a razor in your cell. You have no privacy, no sense of dignity, and no rights. And in a well-run jail, high-profile prisoners have virtually no chance of killing themselves. So the alleged suicide of Jeffrey Epstein, the 66-year-old financier with powerful American and foreign friends who was about to stand trial for allegedly sexually abusing dozens of girls, many of them underage, is particularly unfathomable—and outrageous. In a letter to the Justice Department, Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska called it inexcusable that Epstein did not live to face his accusers. “Obviously, heads must roll,” he wrote. Attorney General William Barr clearly agrees. Saying that he was “appalled” to have learned that Epstein was found dead at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in lower Manhattan, Barr instructed the department’s inspector general to investigate precisely how Epstein died at MCC, a long-troubled, pretrial detention facility.Epstein was placed on suicide watch on July 23 after being found semi-conscious in his cell with marks on his neck, in what prison officials described at the time as a failed suicide attempt. He was removed from suicide watch six days later, on July 29, and returned to a segregated area of the prison with extra security known as the special housing unit. Why Epstein was removed from suicide watch is a focus of the DOJ investigation. While both ADC and MCC are high-security detention facilities that hold high-profile prisoners, my own experience as Inmate #45570083 has led me to conclude that Epstein—Inmate #76318-054—should have lived to face his accusers, and that in a well-run prison, he would have. The ongoing investigations by the FBI, DOJ inspector general, and the prison itself will explore whether MCC is among the nation’s worst-run federal pretrial facilities, and/or whether Epstein may have had some desired, or unwanted help in ending his life and escaping his day in court. I shun conspiracy theories—but based on the little that prison officials have said so far, and what I know of life in jail, Epstein’s death is deeply troubling. No one should die of unnatural causes in jail. In a well-managed facility, no one would. However lurid the charges against him and perverse the nature of his alleged crimes, Epstein’s death behind bars should trouble every American. The investigations must not rest until what happened is revealed.
Ivanhoe Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Politics-And-Diplomacy/Ehud-Barak-crashed-at-Epsteins-apt-regularly-neighbors-say-report-597820 New reports by residents of a building owned by Jeffrey Epstein's younger brother indicate that former prime minister Ehud Barak crashed regularly at the building, which is located at 301 East 66th St. in the Upper East Side of New York. In 2010, a former bookkeeper for the modeling agency owned by Epstein associate Jean-Luc Brunel, told the FBI that the apartments were being used to house underage girls from Europe, the former USSR and South America. The bookkeeper had told the Miami Herald that Brunel was sending the girls to Epstein’s parties or loaning them to wealthy clients to be molested. Many of the same allegations were also raised by Brad Edwards, an attorney for several of Epstein’s victims. Nadia Marcinkova, who was accused of participating in the financier’s sexual encounters with underage girls, registered an aviation business to the 66th St. building in 2011. Following an Israeli journalist’s report revealing that Barak received $2.4 million from the Wexner Foundation in 2004, Epstein – who was a trustee and a major donor in the foundation – also reportedly invested $1 million in Barak’s technology startup Cabryne in 2015. The latter investment happened after the 2008 conviction of Epstein in a Florida state court for soliciting a prostitute and procuring an under-18-year-old girl for prostitution. Where the story gets complicated is that when you put Bill Clinton and Ehud Barak on the board, the 3rd vertex is Marc Rich.
BansheeOne Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) While we pursue conspiracy theories, it's mighty timely that Barak's name gets dragged in just after he comes back from political retirement to join forces with the centrist Blue-White Party, creating a formidable challenge to Netanyahu in the upcoming Israeli re-snap elections ... I'm not so worried about the reported (in)action of Epstein's guards. Corrections personnel have pointed out that even the stepped-up "twice inside every 30 minutes" doesn't translate to "every 15 minutes", but e. g. 0701, 0729, 0731, 0759 as you pass up and down the tract, and it takes just ten minutes to terminally strangulate yourself. And by all accounts, Epstein was off suicide watch, which as mentioned is a very transient measure, and was supposed to be checked upon merely each "normal" 30 minutes - by two guards pulling a double shift, one voluntary, one forced to make up for personnel shortfalls. What's more curious is various alleged former inmates saying equipment of the cells in that unit itself should preclude finding any means to hang yourself. Though it's not really clear whether they refer to normal or special security cells, and at least one of them contradicts himself by saying people are killing themselves in that unit all the time. I suspect bad or sensationalist editing is in play for some of those accounts. I haven't heard anything about allegedly malfunctioning video surveillance anymore after the first 24 hours, too, which indicates it was just some unfounded assumption being thrown out. rmgill Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 I was on the news room floor last night. I happened to chat with an overnight staffer and this came up. Apparently he’d never heard of the various Clinton related mysterious deaths. He thought Trump came up with it on his own. I had to point out the Whitewater case as a starting point.

Paul G. Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 I wonder how long it will take the FBI to get it completely covered up?Who exactly in the FBI would cover it up?
Tim the Tank Nut Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 EveryoneIt is time for the FBI to go away There is no combination of events that justify the situation as it stands now. The highest value prisoner in the country and they wouldn't keep him form harm.Occam's Razor is sharp on this one

Tim the Tank Nut Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Putin doesn't enter into the equation at all. What we are seeing here is a lawless part of the existing US Gov't.It is a very big deal.By now a lot of people are aware at just how deep the Deep State runs. I can't help but wonder what the head of the Secret Service thinks about the FBI. By all reports the current President is popular with his security detail. My guess is that the Secret Service Agents watch the FBI staff very closely. When it seems likely that the President will be re-elected that is when the FBI will make their next attempt. Fueled with Chinese and Iranian support the FBI no longer even tries to look honest.
glenn239 Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) Putin doesn't enter into the equation at all. For the left it does if citing what Putie wants advances the Left's own agenda, (so Putin wants a weaker NATO and the Left talks about that as a reason for a stronger NATO). But, when what Putin wants is not convenient for the Left's agenda, then the Left won't mention Putin or what Putin wants. (So, for example, Putin wants wide open US borders with Mexico, massive unsustainable spending on universal health care for all Americans and illegal immigrants, and extremely restrictive gun laws - all of these because they'll sow dissention inside the US. The Left does not mention this because what Putin wants is against what they want). Oddly, for the Left, what Putin wants matters or does not matter only if it helps or hinders their ability to bonk the Right over the head in some domestic issue or other. Yama Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 On a comment by Banshee earlier. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebephilia The psychs have subdivisions for this type of deviance. The linked article links to the others. These terms apply to people who are (almost) exclusively interested about that age group. So worry not, just thinking "oh that 16y-old is hot" doesn't make you philiac-this-or-that. Probably Epstein was not one either, he just wanted hot young women and didn't care how old they were.

Nobu Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Apparently the optics of Epstein dying in custody, which are as bad as they can get, were preferable to the potential alternative. When corruption and incompetence become mainstream, the man who runs over John Gotti's son has as much of a chance as this Epstein.

Tim the Tank Nut Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 I think what is really being said is that "we are your betters. The law doesn't apply to us like it does to you underlings. You'd best do as we say or else"
Ivanhoe Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Maybe he just didnt want to go through all the trials and interrogations. As do thousands of prisoners awaiting trial. Thus the rather extensive efforts to prevent suicides, so that the accused "faces the music" in court and serves his/her sentence. The thing is, no matter had badly that prison is run, the warden and senior officers had to have known that a suicide would bring the presumption of murder and the rather thorough dissection of personal finances, etc. Either Epstein is quite the McGyver, the warden is mentally incompetent, or the warden was involved.
Jeff Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 The things is, he had a decent chance of having the whole thing thrown out on a double jeopardy defense given the expansive nature of his original plea agreement. Why do yourself in before a ruling on that?
