MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A mass shooting at a northwest Miami-Dade banquet hall on Sunday has left two dead and over 20 injured.

On Sunday night, there were 17 people at local hospitals and 3 remained in critical condition.

The mainstream news channels are avoiding the generic name of what's going on in Miami right now, but it is widely known as;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Beach_Week

Unlike a lot of violence at festivals etc., this attack apparently was planned. It happened at a venue where hip-hop artists were performing.

So a 'weekend in Chit-cago' on Miami Beach'?  Yeah that's totally not going to go badly.

One that didn't happen.

Man accused of plotting Walmart attack arrested in Texas (msn.com)

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — Authorities in Texas arrested a man accused of plotting to carry out a mass shooting at a Walmart, and a search of the suspect's home turned up firearms, ammunition and materials officials described as “radical ideology paraphernalia.”

Coleman Thomas Blevins, 28, was arrested Friday in Kerrville and has been charged with making a “terroristic threat to create public fear of serious bodily injury,” the Kerr County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Sunday.

Investigators said they intercepted a message from Blevins on Thursday indicating he was “preparing to proceed with a mass shooting,” and that the threat included Walmart. Blevins was taken into custody the next day.

Authorities searched his home and, according to the release, “firearms, ammunition, electronic evidence, concentrated THC, and radical ideology paraphernalia, including books, flags, and handwritten documents were seized.”

Blevins is on felony probation and was not supposed to have guns, the release said. He was booked into the Kerr County Jail in Kerrville, a city about 70 miles (113 kilometers) northwest of San Antonio. Jail records didn't list an attorney who could comment on Blevins' behalf.

Virginia Beach has had somewhat similar problems with their beach week.

Portland. 800% increase in homicides.

Clearly something that you can lay at Trump's feet. 🤫

It's sort of like the blame game with domestic violence. If she did what she said (Have dinner on time, etc), he wouldn't be forced to beat her so much.

What pretty much anyone not here is going to miss is the demographics with the various spikes in racially disparate violence. Like against Asians and Jews. Clearly, the spate of black men attacking Asians is all due to Trump. It will have nothing to do with black men who are on the criminally inclined range deciding that they can teach some asians a lesson or just do what they want.

Atlanta too. This was going on off and on all last summer. When the business owners asked for help from Atlanta Police Department to get it under control, they told the businesses they didn't have the manpower and that they should hire their own local/private security.

Mind you these are public streets where the parties are organized on social media and without any legal permits for closing the streets let alone any of the other things required to do such a thing.

Clearly, something that Trump is responsible for too.

DB thinks there is something wrong with Canadian water. There must be something terribly wrong with USA water.

A 14-year-old girl from Florida was shot by officers after getting into a shootout with Volusia County deputies. Authorities said that the girl and 12-year-old boy ran away from a United Methodist Children’s Home and broke into a home by shattering a window.

Deputies contacted the homeowner and learned that he had multiple guns, including an AK-47 and a pump shotgun inside. When deputies tried to enter the house, they came under fire. After about ten minutes, the girl exited the house and threatened to kill the officers. About 15 minutes later, the boy exited the house with the AK-47 and started shooting.

It's not the water. It's people in poorly behaving classes who drink (or do drugs) when they're pregnant and have kids who have developmental issues. It's multi-generational so that makes it hard for people who only care about surface details and can't look beyond the color of the skin or the what ever fancy paint you've decided to cover everything with.

Well drunks/druggies having drunk/druggie sex with other drunks/druggies; Any child they pump out is probably 90 percent chance of failure. They probably don't have a real hope anyway.

Not really a "mass" shooting, but close enough by local standards.

Germany: Man shoots woman then himself in court

A man shot a woman and then himself on the grounds of a district court in northern Germany. The incident is under investigation.

A man fatally shot a woman and then himself on Thursday on the grounds of the district court of the German city of Celle, just north of Hanover, a police spokeswoman said.

The circumstances surrounding the crime are now being investigated, spokeswoman Birgit Insinger said.

Celle's local newspaper, the Cellesche Zeitung, reported that a legal dispute was behind the crime.

"That could have been so. But it is still part of the investigations," said Insinger.

She could not confirm whether there was a relationship between the perpetrator, 78, and the victim, 49.

Legal dispute backdrop

The two appeared at the district court over an eviction case, the magazine Legal Tribune Online reported. The man had been the tenant, and the woman the landlady of the flat.

Police said the perpetrator fired the fatal shots between 10:00 and 10:20 Thursday morning.

"Attention, we have a police situation on Mühlenstraße. We are on site. Please refrain from asking questions for the time being," Celle police said on Twitter, naming the street where the district court (Amtsgericht Celle) is located.

Judge rules California's ban on assault weapons unconstitutional

In his decision, Judge Roger T. Benitez praised the AR-15 as a "home defense weapon."

June 5, 2021, 6:17 AM CEST / Updated June 5, 2021, 6:58 AM CEST

By Dennis Romero

SAN DIEGO — A federal judge on Friday struck down California's ban on assault weapons as unconstitutional but left plenty of time for the state to file an appeal.

The state’s definition of illegal military-style rifles unlawfully deprives law-abiding Californians of weapons commonly allowed in most other states and by the U.S. Supreme Court, the judge wrote.

Judge Roger T. Benitez, who has favored pro-gun groups in past rulings, described the AR-15 rifle, used in many of the nation's deadliest mass shootings, as an ideal weapon.

"Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment," he wrote in Friday's decision.

"Yet, the State of California makes it a crime to have an AR15 type rifle," Benitez continued. "Therefore, this Court declares the California statutes to be unconstitutional."

He praised the AR-15 as a rifle that should be formally protected by the law for its "militia readiness."

Gov. Gavin Newsom was indignant in a statement late Friday.

"The fact that this judge compared the AR-15 — a weapon of war that’s used on the battlefield — to a Swiss Army Knife completely undermines the credibility of this decision and is a slap in the face to the families who’ve lost loved ones to this weapon," he said.

The office of Attorney General Rob Bonta said it would appeal.

"Today’s decision is fundamentally flawed, and we will be appealing it," Bonta said in a statement Friday night. "There is no sound basis in law, fact, or common sense for equating assault rifles with swiss army knives."

The Firearms Policy Coalition, which backed the suit, celebrated the decision. "We look forward to continuing this challenge at the Ninth Circuit and, should it be necessary, the Supreme Court," the group's president, Brandon Combs, said in a statement.

I don't know why everyone's indignant about the Swiss Army Knife comparison, it's fairly evident from the AR accessory market.

Easy to see why the above AR-15 is excoriated by the CA legislature. No corkscrew; quite a thumb to the eye of California's wine industry. Plus its being held by an Asian-American, and we know how blue state politicians feel about that.

Never mind that the California law banned features from rifles that are older than the existence of the state. They likewise argued that they were new and dangerous technology.

Strange, yes. But not rare. Consider Walter Duranty, or the second US ambassador to the USSR, one Joseph Davies.

Some reading.

White People Problems. The western upper-middle-class and old money classes tend towards dissipation and self-destruction when left without an external mission and adult supervision.

The Ouroboros of 20th century life in the west is that the west has a century of empirical data on what happens to the folks who think they are going to be leaders in the People's Republic, but they have a lifetime of training and indoctrination in believing counterfactuals. It took more than half a century for Walter Duranty to lose his halo.
