Was that garlic fest shooter in California also some white supremacist dude? I wonder if there is some organization or connection.

He did reference "Might is Right" which is popular among white supremacists, and raged about hordes of mestizos at the festival online, but the FBI said they couldn't put him into any particular ideological box.

The connection between recent right-wing shooters seems the same we've seen with post-al-Qaeda islamists - radicalization on the internet and mutual inspiration by previous examples, not an organization in the conventional sense. Yet it seems not quite correct to call them lone wolves, since they were typically tied to some online network of pertinent sites; Bellingcat mentions 4chan and particularly 8chan for the right-wingers. At some point they pen some more-or-less original manifesto and go off, just like MacJihadis tape a video swearing allegiance to the IS and declaring their personal war on the Jews and crusaders.

Reports on the second shooting it would have been worse, but some individual managed to grab the end of the barrel on the rifle. So he then went to a pistol. The guy in El Paso was reportedly wearing body armour if I heard correctly.

It strikes me that the media conflates all these incidents into one. That there is one problem and one solution. It strikes me there is a difference between the guys who wake up one day and decide they dont like Mondays (which is an OLD problem and one we all suffer from one way or another) and those being triggered by hate, either White or Islamic. Its very easy to finger all these as loners, but the more you look at them, the white supremacists clearly DO have a network on line, even if it perhaps cannot be categorized as an organization. One thing you can say about 8 Chan, its sure as hell isnt organized. So if you somehow banned all assault rifles, I think people like that would still be swapping plans for bombs online. Or as we saw in the UK, using knives or even in one particular case, a van.

Retired FBI guy blaming it all on 'Violent Computer games'. So why did it happen even before there were home computers smartarse?

Reports of those concealed carrying in the Walmart. They did not engage because were concerned with:

1. Getting their family to safety

2. Getting shot by police.

No one can blame them for either. The first is a duty, the second entirely rational.

It is difficult to discuss on policy when the facts are still obscure. BTW, Do we know the facts of Las Vegas shooting?

1. Nutter

2. Lots of money

3. Free availability of semiautomatic firearms and means to convert them to (almost) full auto.

4. Tall building

5. Large concentration of potential targets.

Even if you eliminated 3, there are so many suitable firearms in circulation, and certain to remain so even if their possession was outright banned, that he would have acquired what he needed very easily. items 1, 2, 4 and 5 are impossible to regulate.

3. The perp had an AK.

Handgun vs. semi auto rifle heavily favours the rifle.

Inevitably, what happens is that whichever ideology shouts loudest drowns any sensible discussion with whatever they think is the most important root cause, without any consideration of practicality.

For myself, I tend to retreat into statistics, because I understand those more than I understand humans. When doing that, one looks at the comparative risk - the contribution to the societal risk made by this type of occurrence compared to every other cause of death. When one does that, one inevitably gets accused of being heartless, because one is apparently not caring of the individuals who have been affected.

Thing is, when attempting to craft societal solutions to societal problems, it is simply not sensible to react to individual events. Unfortunately, you either get a knee-jerk reaction or you get paralysis. Either way, the population is rarely served well.

For me, I'd love to see a magic wand waved that removes all firearms, and simultaneously makes everyone safe from every other source of harm (unless they want it for themselves). Not going to happen, and I suspect that people wouldn't be happy about the magic elf that can exert that level of control.

His "Manifesto" straight out of the left progressive ideology: https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2019/08/el-paso-terrorist-is-a-hard-core-progressive-and-white-nationalist-wants-universal-income-and-universal-healthcare/ He states shoot gun free zones.

Mass shooter Patrick Crusius murdered 20 people today at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.

Crusius published a manifesto before his shooting spree.

It is clear from his words that he is a PROGRESSIVE white nationalist – what was once defined as a “Nazi.”

This is not to say he’s a Democrat or a Republican, but he is without question a progressive.

All you have to do is read his manifesto to see the obvious tell-tale signs.

Under his section titled “Economic Reasons” for the attack, the shooter states:

Now THAT is some Nazi level stuff right there. Kill the undesirables so we can have our glorious government programs!

In the near future, America will have to initiate a basic universal income to prevent widespread poverty and civil unrest as people lose their jobs (to automation). Joblessness is in itself a source of civil unrest. The less dependents on a government welfare system, the lower the unemployment rate, the better. Achieving ambitious social projects like universal healthcare and UBI would become far more likely to succeed if tens of millions of defendants are removed.”

His was an act of environmental terrorism as well:

Not exactly sounding like a Republican, but this next quote does remind me of one of the parties:

“The decimation of our environment is creating a massive burden for future generations. Corporations are heading the destruction of our environment by shamelessly overharvesting resources.”

Huh. Where have we heard about a confederacy in the past? We’ll have to think on that one.

“I am against race mixing because it destroys genetic diversity and creates identity problems….But the idea of deporting or murdering all non-white Americans is horrific. Many have been here as long as the whites, and have done as much to build our country. The best solution to this for now would be to divide America int a confederacy of territories with at least 1 territory for each race.”

The fact is, this guy is the real deal NAZI. He’s a white nationalist socialist, and this is EXTREMELY inconvenient for progressives because he throws progressive history right in everyone’s faces.

Nazis weren’t just white nationalists. They were proud Progressives of their day, and this terrorist is a proud white nationalist progressive millennial.

No wonder progressives are running from this story, and begging you to run from it as well.

Washington Examiner reporter Anna Giaritelli posted the name and a photos of the alleged shooter, sourced to law enforcement, “A law enforcement official in El Paso told me the Walmart shooter is in custody.

Crusius posted a manifesto before his shooting spree.

In the manifesto he says he chose a gun-free zone as his target for obvious reasons.

Remember: it is not cowardly to pick low hanging fruit. AKA Don’t attack heavily guarded areas to fulfill your super soldier COD fantasy. Attack low security targets. Even though you might out gun a security guard or police man, they likely beat you in armor, training and numbers.

And now the left is editing his page to show Republican, how despicable: https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2019/08/leftists-change-shooter-patrick-crusiuss-mylife-page-after-saturday-shooting-from-democrat-to-republican/

Patrick Crusius has a profile on MyLife.com.

MyLife is an American information brokerage founded in 2002 as Reunion.com. MyLife gathers personal information through public records and other sources to automatically generate a “MyLife Public Page” for each person, described by MyLife as a “complete Wikipedia-like biography on every American.”

At 2:46 PM today MyLife had this profile for the deranged killer Patrick Crusius.

His original profile at 2:46 said he was a registered Democrat.

At 2:50 PM leftists changed his political affiliation from Democrat to Republican.

At 2:52 his profile was changed again.

His description now says he is a Republican and QAnon member.

Apparently the usual wingnuts want to make this about tribal affiliation.

Rational adults tend to focus on causation and mitigation.

"This attack is in response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas."

The only place I have heard that word used is from the President, and Fox News.

And rather then, maybe, politicians would get off their ass when the public uproar made them do something.

"Do something", anything, or is there something in particular? Make the inhuman part of humanity go away? We could be struggling with a knife crime epidemic, or an acid crime epidemic. If violence has become the answer, we could outlaw pointed sticks and fists and still not solve the problem.

There's no one answer and many options aren't even getting a moment of thought. We're a society that glorifies solving differences through violence. We have a growing generation of people who crave the "blaze of glory" ending because they have no purpose in life nor any ability to stand against the vicissitudes of life. We have dismantled the mental health system with absolutely nothing to replace it, which also impacts the homeless problem. If we banned the sale of all firearms tomorrow, we'd have to launch a massive house by house search for the rest, which would be fruitless and cause an explosion in this country.

I never understood why these guys bother with writing a manifesto themselves when they could just go to TankNet and copy-paste one of E5Ms posts from here.

Because everybody wants to be a gangster, but damn few wanna get busy when it's time to do gangster shit.

I'm surprised no one has commented on the sound moderator on the S&W 686 6" or similar. Odd.

It looks like a magazine, not a can. S/F...Ken M

Thus far, you could be speaking for the UK as well.

I dont think you need to ban firearms. I think you perhaps need to be a hell of a lot more selective about who gets them. Do you have any system where to purchase a firearm, you have to be recommended by someone else?

I wish the media would stop publicizing the names, faces and "manifestos" of these lunatics. Don't give them the fame and exposure they crave.

You have just described Soviet media practice regarding terror attacks.

Did it work reducing terrorism by taking away publicity?
