Roman Alymov Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 an asshole Reports at WSJ that Erdogan's government has voided the win by opposition in IstanbulPoliticians usually do what their voters/supporters want them to do. As far as i understand, Erdogan is very popular in internal, rural and conservative regions of Turkey, while unpopular in coastal, modernized regions - so it is quite logical for him to smash political enemies to please his political supporters. I'm afraid Turkey is not the only country with this type of divide.

Josh Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Presumably a revote has to take place with the appropriate amount of ballot stuffing now?
Mistral Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 This is the English version of a pro gov paper in Turkey. Not that there are an anti gov papers left open. He has been riding anti Americanism like the best. You can only imagine what they write in Turkish. A few days ago the headline was a scenario of an attack on Turkey by the US fleet... https://www.yenisafak.com/en/news/pkkterrorists-martyr-turkish-soldiers-using-sophisticated-weaponssupplied-by-us-3480599
Ssnake Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I suppose the basic facts are correct - Kurdish forces being equipped with modern anti-tank weapons now, with sniper rifles, and night vision gear, and all of it of American origin. That a Turkish paper conflates Kurds, PKK, and YPG is to be expected (and in itself not particularly heinous), also that they don't mention the IS as the primary reason why the Kurds receive that equipment in the first place, or that the Kurds have legitimate beef with Turkey.
Mistral Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Thing is every video the Kurds publish of their attacks show soviet equipment being used, unless the meticulously do not show attacks using US supplied kit. US is just the handy boogeyman for Erdogan.
