Bringing India and Indians onside in the effort to install a replacement for Maduro, for the purposes of fracturing the SCO, should now be a priority for Washington in various ways. That doesn't mean they will line up behind Maduro, as the rank and file is as screwed up as the rest of the country by the economic chaos. In contrast to other countries in the zone, the Venezuelan armed forces see themselves as progressives so the rise of Chavez isn't a black swan. Russia is a very minor player in this matter.Cubans seems like logical choice: they are native in local language, adapted to local climate, not far from home, well-trained, educated, ideologically "charged", relatively poor (making this job attractive = good work ethics), in good relations both with China and Russia. The heavily staged visits included a photo op of Maduro and his wife riding in the turret of Chinese-made VN18 armored amphibious vehicle while it did donuts in the water at a naval base. The events were obvious propaganda to show his opponents at home and abroad that he continues to enjoy the loyalty of the bulk of the country's armed forces, a typical move for a dictator facing a popular challenge to their authority. In fact as far as I know it never ended, though given the current output I bet it was curtailed a bit. That said it isn't hard to believe that Wagner is there too given Russian investment in Maduro; they just probably are not as prolific as Cubans. Just a thought - in case Maduro's army is compromised, and start losing support for him because he will run out of money eventually, Wagner will be his way out of the country.
