Here's the proposed itinerary from the aborted 2017 gulf coast I&I. At least for me it would have been arrive in New Orleans depart home from Orlando.

Day 0 Arrive New Orleans
Day 1 WW2 Museum and Battle of New Orleans Battlefied, overnight in Baton Rouge
Day 2 USS Kidd, 10:00-12:00 3 hours to Mobile overnight Mobile
Day 3 USS Alabama 9-1, Fort Morgan 1-4 1 hour to Pensacola overnight in Pensacola
Day 4 Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum 9-2 6 hours to Orlando
Day 5 Kennedy Space flight center 1 hour east of Orlando
Day 6 Depart

Based on my trip to the area last December, I would suggest a minor change. I would recommend 2 nights in the Mobile area, perhaps Orange Beach. That gives easy access to Fort Morgan, the USS Alabama and the Pensacola naval air museum. I don't think there's any point in overnighting in Pensacola, as that would only knock an hour off of the drive to Orlando.

October 2019 sounds fine to me. I also like the itinerary West — East.

(I bought an iphone, so now I can keep up with the joint news.) :)

Next steps are specific dates, then hotels, then transport arrangements, I guess.

I have no limitations for October at this time.

Seems October is it. Shall we looking for accomodations on high-ish ground? Just in case a hurricane decides to join us.

We'll be mobile so we can always divert to high ground if needed. I'd say we can agree on a hotel for the stay in New Orleans and we can just take pot luck on the rest. There are plenty of roadside motels and October isn't really the high season so availability shouldn't be an issue. Going to arbitrarily pick 10/18 for day 0. Depart from Orlando is pretty much just my plan. Those of not of Sam can plan on returning to New Orleans, we could also skip Orlando altogether and head back for more days in and around New Orleans. This is where the local talent can help out regarding stuff to do and see like local RR museums and the like.

Fri 10/18 Day 0 Arrive New Orleans
Sat 10/19 Day 1 WW2 Museum and Battle of New Orleans Battlefield, overnight in Baton Rouge
Sun 10/20 Day 2 USS Kidd, 10:00-12:00 3 hours to Mobile overnight Mobile
Mon 10/21 Day 3 USS Alabama 9-1, Fort Morgan 1-4 overnight in Mobile
Tue 10/22 Day 4 1 hour to Pensacola Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum 9-? 6 hours to Orlando
Wed 10/23 Day 5 Kennedy Space flight center 1 hour east of Orlando
Thur 10/24 Day 6 Depart

How about some range time? Those not of Sam would appreciate it.

Indeed. It would be nicer with reasonably low cost of ammo.

Late October/Early November should work for me.

I was off by a month. Its late September to early October but I should be able to push that into October.

PS: "not of Sam"???

Oh, another one fo those Sports that has not tanked for Sam, and was not paid a bonus.

"Not of Sam" is tanknetese for those people not blessed to be part of Uncle Sam's family. The next step above that are those who "Tanked for Sam" and of course the pinnacle is having been "Paided a Bonus" to do it.

If some people want range time, it might make sense to see if it can be done in the Mobile area. Theres lots to do for anyone who doesnt want to partake. I would probably visit Fort Gaines.

Ive been to Fort Morgan and its not a 3 hour visit even for tanknetters, its 90 mins at most. On the other hand, Pensacola is probably worth as much time as the Udvar Hazy Museum in Washington (I.e. most of a day) so we may not want to combine that with a 6 1/2 hour drive to Orlando afterwards.

Orlando will be out for me, but I can shoot for a NOLA linkup, then head home after Pensacola. Mon/Tues in Mobile and Pcola for sure, this far out.

I'm fine with dropping Orlando altogether, although I'm not sure what else, if anything we should replace it with. Allocating a full day for the Aviation Museum won't hurt, although I think we actually left Udvar Hazy before closing time.

I will probably aim to end up in Orlando anyway as Lisa and I have a tentative plan to meet there and spend a couple of days in mouseland.

Mobile has Fort Morgan, Fort Gaines, the USS Alabama and easy access to Pensacola. For anyone coming from Europe, Orlando has the advantage of lots of options for direct flights home as opposed to trying to fly home from Mobile or Pensacola.

To fit a visit to Ox Ranch does not look practical. It's 2 hours away from San Antonio by road, however the trek to NOLA is 10 hours, so an additional flight should be needed, and San Antonio International Airport only connects to Toronto and some Mexican airports.

Yes, the OXPLAN seems to be a no-go. The Gulf Coast Campaign turns out to be much more practical.

Brought to you by Mission Creep! I went to the Pensacola Air Museum a year ago. it's immense. I never knew the Navy had so many planes.
