Laser Shark Posted May 23 Posted May 23 The Type 26 is apparently favoured by the MoD, according to the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv. Not that this fully settles things since there are also other interests at play here, but it certainly seems we’re heading towards the result that most are expecting.

I hope so, another user will make the learning curve for this platform even better and allow a lot of cross decking .
Stuart Galbraith Posted May 25 Posted May 25 It will slow up the RN getting another frigate, but I think in this circumstance anyone with a Type 26 in the North Sea or North cape is doing our work for us, so why not. Who knows, maybe the USN will come around when they finally figure out Constellation is broke.

T26 is built for ASW and Damage Control, the Type 31 is not. The biggest issue with SPY for Canada is crewing, it requires more people than the previous systems the RCN uses and that was not caught to further in the design stage, which has impacts on accommodations and hotel systems. The biggest issue we have with the River Class Destroyers is that they will be built by Irving, who have not covered themselves in glory with the quality of the AOP's builds. It's also likely the different flights of RCD's will be different, particular in VLS loadouts and other armament.

My point is that completly changing a combat system, sensors and weapons of warship, plus necessary auxiliary equipement is not simple plus adding the letargic manufacturing in most of West. That applies to Constellations, T26 Canadian and T26 Australian. Now might be some are better ot less worse managed than the others but we will only know it when the ships will be in comission.
Colin Posted June 2 Posted June 2 The Aussie one I expect to be a bit of a dog as they are already pushing the weight limits of the design. Canada wants one type of ship to do both AD and ASW. Is it the right choice? Who knows, but these ships will weigh double that of the Halifax's they are replacing. Talking with people who spent a career in ASW, they are excited to get the ship as the T26 is designed from the ground up for ASW, so she will be much quieter than other ships out there. Canada is being careful to stay within the weight limits of the design and is also building a test/training centre on land for the sensor systems. We also appears they have learned from the screwups on the AOP's in regard to making it helicopter compliment from the start/
