bojan Posted May 3, 2019 Author Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) Now obscurities - various second line rifle companies from '50/60s.Poziciona ceta - Positional company - Intended for protecting larger military installations (airfields and such mostly). Those were founded in 1948. immediately after Tito-Stalin split. They were always reserve only formations, only filled in case of war. There was no higher organization than company, and companies were put under the command of the installation commander. Those would be filled with 2nd and 3rd call reserves in case of war. Posadna ceta (no exact translation, lose translation would be "rear area company") - also founded in 1948. They had a similar role, but were lighter in organization. Unlike Positional company there were higher organizations, up the Bn level. During peacetime they were understrength, with only one company being active (and used for training). Major role difference in those two were that Positional company was "tied" to an exact military instalation, while "Posadna" could be used for any rear area protection. With an introduction of Territorial Defense in 1969. and strengthening of the Light/Partisan companies both orgs were discontinued, replaced by TO for rear area security and dedicated Light companies for defending military installations. Rifle sections should always have required amount of SMGs." My suspicion is that in practice SMGs would be Sten or various ex-German trophies - MP-34/35 etc.

bojan Posted May 28, 2019 Author Posted May 28, 2019 (edited) Infantry Anti-armor Companies First a little foreword.Infantry Anti-armor Cos appeared in late '70s as an evolution of the Bn level support company. In 1969. infantry or and earlier there was dedicated Support Co combining Mortar (usually 6 x 82mm), AT (mix of RCLs and ATWs) and AD platoons (either AAMG or AAG).However with a strengthening of the Bn anti-tank capabilities those were estimated to have became difficult to command effectively and as an interim solution in 1971. org Support Co was disbanded, with Mortar (6 x 82mm mortar), RCL (6 x 82mm RCL) and Mixed AT platoon (3 x ATGM, 8 x ATW) being attached directly to a Bn HQ.In 1977. Anti-armor company was formed, combining previous RCL platoon and Mixed AT platoon. Edited May 28, 2019 by bojan

Nikolas93TS Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Was AT-4 bought in 1990 or it was only officially TO&Eed in that year? I know limited number of Dragons were bought before it, but as far as numbers of AT-4 in service I have seen conflicting data.

I know limited number of Dragons were bought before it, but as far as numbers of AT-4 in service I have seen conflicting data. 9K111 Fagot was acquired in 1983 with 9M111 missiles, after local M80 DRUG project failure. Newer 9M111M missiles were acquired sometime in 1990-91. Wartime TOEs were slow to incorporate weapons changes until there was enough systems to count on in case of major war. That is why F-69 is first infantry company that had SAR (M59/66), even if they were issued since 1967. and by 1969. there was a considerable stockpile of them already issued. Regarding Dragon, it is a murky story, just as with Cobra in 1960s. There is a manual, there were missiles and launchers, but it appears it was never really incorporated in any formation. It was too short ranged for a Bn level ATGM, so my guess is that it was supposed to be Co level ATGM. It would have fit in the 1984 Mechanized company org, with it's 7 or 12 ATGM launchers per company, but something went wrong (well, it was Dragon, cynic would say that it was wrong from the beginning of the service) and it was never widely acquired nor introduced.
