Ivanhoe Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Probably nonsense, but discovery might unearth a few things; AIUI, the natural gas producers had existing contracts with northern states. If Texas gas-fired power plants were starved of natural gas, seems likely they were 2nd or 3rd in line for a critical resource during an abnormally cold winter. As for pipelines freezing, ISTR it was the pumping stations that were not properly winterized.
sunday Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Among the magnificent, awesome, and beautiful things and people that came out of Texas, I give you that lady from Amarillo - Cyd Charisse! Also, a very memetic Texan number:
Ivanhoe Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Just freakin' awesome. Cheating on the teaching cert exam, with added pedophilia;
Murph Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 Cold, damp, and I love it. At least it is not 90+ right now.
sunday Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) Not only Texan, but Texan of Chinese descent. Edited December 7, 2024 by sunday

Jumpin' ahead to December: in one of my 'office approved news feeds' I saw a story about how Greenies and Environuts freaked out over firebreaks being cut into forest land--some sort of shrieking about 'clear cutting' or something.
Murph Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Going to be 80+F here today. Just a normal day in South Texas.
JWB Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 The Bible has been banned by the head of a Texas school district who said in an email to concerned parents that it contained "sexually explicit material." https://www.newsweek.com/bible-banned-texas-schools-over-sexually-explicit-material-2004170
Murph Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Yeah, and I understand he is getting ripped a new one. Fast backtrack: https://nypost.com/2024/12/30/us-news/texas-school-district-backtracks-on-bible-ban/ Durn, even the TImes of India is reporting on it! https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/texas-school-district-restores-bible-to-libraries-after-sexually-explicit-debate-and-public-outcry/articleshow/116806472.cms We are due to have record heat today, almost 90F. I hate the 40+ degree weather swings at this time of year.

Murph Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 If you have never dealt with these things, they are both dangerous, and a wrecking crew. Feral Hogs are a menace to drivers (hitting one can cause a car to flip), aggressive to people, and destroy things left and right. My brother had his $1,500 deer feeder knocked over by them, and trashed. So he and his daughter sat out one weekend with their "hog guns" (.300 blackout) and harvested 40+ of them. All in all, in four weeks, he, his daughter, and hunting partners got over 100 of them. My first sheriff was catching them in traps, and then selling them to some Yuppie from Dallas for .50 cents a pound, and the guy was taking them to Dallas, having them slaughtered, and then selling "Free Range Organic Pork" to the other Yuppies in Dallas at $7.50/lb or more, making a killing. My old Sheriff made good coin off of this. They breed like rats. https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/01/cue-feral-hogs-pack-beasts-wreak-havoc-suburban/

Pork is very much appreciated by the big reptiles--ripping it apart makes 'em feel like they're back in the wild https://www.instagram.com/p/DCXo5XhRbn4/ Sometimes to the detriment of the those close by.

My goodness that was some good stuff.
Tim Sielbeck Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I was able to try some boar in a restaurant when I was in Germany. Damn good stuff.
rmgill Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I really need to get a NV scope for my .308 rifle. Then I can organize a Hog shoot here in Georgia some place. When I get to that point, I'll make an invite here for those that might be able to come.
Murph Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 Local Feral hogs taste bad, due to the acorns and other stuff they eat. My brother mixes their meat 50/50 with store bought ground pork just to cut the gamy flavor. Then he makes sausage.

Mr King Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I like the enthusiastic and creative ways Texans hunt wild pigs. I have seen them set up everything from explosive traps, to mini guns and machine guns on helos.
Murph Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 My brother also did the Tannerite Hog Hunting thing. Blew about a dozen into little chunks of pig meat. He and his partners on their hunting grounds are on a mission to eliminate all the feral pigs they can due to the damage they do to everything.
Ivanhoe Posted January 7 Posted January 7 If Gov. Abbott has a clue, then the state gov't should be providing 100% rebates to every Texan with a hunting license that buys a thermal scope. This hog thing is outta control.
Tim Sielbeck Posted January 7 Posted January 7 No wonder I don't remember those gates. I lived in the SA area in the '70s.
