Particulate help make those great sunsets. When we have large brush or pine forest fires in the south west side of the state (actually good practice to burn out the undergrowth and the pine forests are mostly immune to it) we get great sunsets AND a really nice smell on the air. The many miles of distance means the wood smoke had scattered leaving just the nice aromatics on the wind. I've often felt, rightly or wrongly, that the health problems of the forests of the pacific northwest are due to the lack of period burn offs of dead falls, debris and similar stuff. It also explains why the wildfires go totally out of control- too much fuel
rmgill
Yep. It's particularly more interesting with pine forests in that the trees become fully involved but while scorched are overall unharmed. The pine needles burn off quickly and the outer layer of bark burns off but the tree is not severely damaged. Gets rid of the briars and a lot of the longer growing underbrush. Murph
Only really stupid people aka Greenies, Libtards, Leftist, and other brain dead folk don't understand you have to clean out the fire package before you get massive wildfires.
Ssnake
Plus, some of those pine cones don't release their seeds without prior charring.

rmgill
Oh no. Don't go so fast. We had Cynthia McKinney for a time. That sounds like something she'd say. And of course there's the hosts of the View who think that Global Warming is cause of things like Solar Eclipses.

Murph
That is so true. Number of deer you can store. My brother lives in Marble Falls, Texas and he just had every window on his truck, his wife's car and his daughters car shattered by hail between golfball and grapefruit size yesterday. Just Brutal. He has not a clue as to the damage to his roof.
