Only in Texas would people be writing news stories about IKEA coming to town. Presswood furniture compared to real wood. I am looking forward to watching the people flock to it. So San Antonio finally will have an IKEA store. The only other thing that gets people that excited is Rodeo season (next month).

Serbia also.

"IKEA for a first time in Serbia"

Forgetting that it was already there 1979-1992...

I want to go to one just to try the food they serve. See how it compares to the fare served at Sam's Club. I'm a real connoisseur of prepackaged processed garbage.

Wasn't there IKEA manufacturing earlier than that?

But it also makes local news when some big chain comes to town here. They just buy the articles about the project to drum up their opening and put their brand into peoples minds. a local supermakrket building was taken over by a different chain here in the area and been renovated and restuctured and there were a lot articles in local newspapers and news websites around some pretty petty drama around the whole deal. Much of it seemed artificially blown up to keep it in the headlines. so really not surprising that such a move makes the news.

Actually it is freshly frozen and then heated at the IKEA store. Pretty good stuff actually for precooked food. Even the instant potatoe mash is edible and not window putty.

Pro-Ukrainians claimed IKEA plans to finally open first store in Ukraine as major step toward Europe (they ignore the fact IKEA is present in barbaric Russia not only with 14 big shops -annual turnout is 63mln people- but also with production lines).

Well Rodeo has officially opened with the Cowboy Breakfast. Ikea opens on Feb 13th, it should be a crazy time, so I will wait a few day (or weeks) before I go look at the new superstore.

We also have a Japanese grocery store in San Antonio. My kids love the melon and strawberry flavored Japanese soft drinks.

With you being a whiskey drinker, I have heard that Japanese whiskey is better than one would believe.

It has been a while, I have been enjoying Jamison Caskmates Stout cask version. A bottle of whiskey tends to last me six months or better these days.

Simon treated me to some in KL. The slight fruity/floral notes are amazing.

Säntis Malt is another freak Whiskey, from Switzerland. But pretty decent, actually. Smoky, but rather like the moist ground of a pine forest than the forest being on fire.

You cannot get stuff like Yamazaki 18 anymore because of demand. It is all spoken for on release. This whiskey was what cemented the reputation thanks to the superb casking. The Japanese picked their sherry barrels and then fired them accross the spectrum to test.

I've been to one in San Antonio as well, maybe the same one. With my wife (GF back then), we've visited the Alamo, went along the River Walk, and were sure to get Mexican food as its rare here. Often when recalling good old times (for us) she'll say with a tired-from-work kind of sigh アメリカに行きたい

As I pointed out to Northerners who laugh at Southerners and wintry conditions, ice hates everyone, no matter where they're from and wants to kill you.

If someone wants to kill you, that's an enemy.

If everything wants to kill you, that's Nature.

What then are Democrats? They want to kill me for sure.
