rmgill Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Well, if you're someone who's stuck on gun control, you're blind to the green color and only see the red bars as a problem because you're stuck on method and not the act itself. If you're more rational, you'll observe that there's two gross mechanisms for suicide tracked in the chart and knowing something more about suicidal ideation you'll grasp that generally people intent on suicide will find a way. In a modern society there are MANY available0. If you eliminate the availability for tool for the the red bar you'll see an equivalent growth of the green bar where the other mechanisms are used. What you won't track are the lives ruined by police arresting random people for simply possessing a useful tool. You'll also not track the relevant increase in violent crime as criminals gain greater domination over likely victims and you'll also not track the slow decline of the society that now has to spiral deeper and deeper into banning other tools also used to commit violence. But you'll be able to pat yourself on the back on how you eliminated a problem but not really.Simply put DB, if you're thinking you can scotch suicides by banning guns, you're deluding yourself. Comparing US and Canadian Suicide rates underscores that. Add those values. You'll see that they're relatively comparable to each other. Why would Austria, France, Finland or Belgium have a higher non-gun suicide rate than the US has for TOTAL sucide rates?
Tim the Tank Nut Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 if a person was in the mood to flip one could say that the simplest tool for the job is more readily available in the USA. The real question is always how can we reduce the suicide rate, not how can we control the method. Controlling the method is a heartless way to deal with the problem
DB Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 So, although you seem to be interpreting the chart correctly, you're completely ignoring that Australia has a lower suicide rate than the US. Maybe it's because everyone has been killed by drop bears first?

Maybe it's because everyone has been killed by drop bears first? And the spiders. And the crocodiles. And the snakes. :-) I'm aware that Australia has a slightly lower suicide rate. That's easily accounted for in the minor differences in culture and climate. Why is the UK's suicide rate lower? The very sunny climate?

Murph Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 San Marcos PD lost one, and had two wounded in an ambush shooting. Police were called to the scene of a domestic disturbance and were met with rifle fire. Killer ended up shooting himself. I went to a short memorial yesterday, and most likely will attend the funeral if possible.

How are you supposed to eat in a public sit down restaurant with your face covered? 2. Who in the actual fuck is the Texas State government that they should think business owners might think they're being ordered back to work? At least twice Governor Abbott said that businesses could reopen, but it wasn't a mandatory order. Thanks a lot, Greg, I was afraid it wasn't going to be optional. 3. Either the curve has been flattened or it hasn't. This go slowly crap is just that, crap. Quite likely there will be some flare ups, they have to be taken in stride, the last thing we need is our politicians wigging out again at the first sign of resurgence.

Murph Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 Well, I filed my second Cold case with the prosecutors. 14 volumes in 3" binders. This is a 1997 homicide where the son killed the father for the inheritance and insurance money. I am now working on my next two, both from 1992, a prostitute was murdered on a county road, and the other was a guy was beaten, tied up, and dumped in an area lake. I think I might be able to solve both, but there is a LOT of work to do. But all I am doing is giving a voice to the forgotten.

And they are keeping them to 25% occupancy. As someone who helped run a family restaurant, you might as well stay closed because you'll be losing money at that rate. The labor and product costs will vastly out strip any potential profit contribution dollars.
Jeff Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Business owner gets arrested for trying to keep her business alive and her family and her employees fed. County judge says he'll give her no time if she admits she's selfish and apologizes. She says trying to feed her kids and employees is not selfish. Judge gives her a week in jail. Aren't we letting serious criminals out of jail BECAUSE of corona? Also, the s governor has ordered hair salons to open in a few days anyway (she didn't know it the time). This woman is a patriot. There are plenty of people in the blue cities that would have sent her to the gulag for her impertinence. I would have been tempted to tell the judge "I'm sorry your honor, but I prefer the taste of black boot polish to brown so I'll have to pass at this time"

Dallas, like Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, is Democratic Party controlled. Something else the media, that is to say Leftists, have not mentioned. When the police officers showed up at her place, to find her, her employees, and patrons all practicing social distancing and wearing face covering. The LEO were not so equipped with face coverings, and she refused them entrance until they were compliant. Update is that the Texas AG, Dan Paxton, has called for her immediate release. ANTIFA is really missing their calling these past few weeks, there is all manner of fascism that needs to be stomped out. Odd thing, they've been strangely silent. I wouldn't have apologized either, and evidently being unapologetic is the "law" she broke. Her's was a good reply about the necessity of feeding her kids and paying her employees, but I think would have gone a step further. I would have pointed out the utter hypocrisy and elitism from those living on the public dole, and being able to feed their children off of public largess, while simultaneously using the threat of deadly force* to prevent her from running a private business and using funds derived thereof to feed her children.
