Always been fond of dachshunds myself. Hard to train though.

The little dachshund will not jump on the bed any more, she wants to be picked up, and the same goes with the couch.

We recently acquired a 9 week pomeranian t cup bitch. She has a malformed hind leg. Missing an ankle. She can seriously pee and crap  ..way more frequent than me...and I am the one with problems. Interesting to see her learning by the day

Really worried about my two they are really showing their age.  To the point where we carry the bigger one up the stairs.

Yeah, it's sad when you realize they're in their twilight years.😢

And it is even worse because the kids are in utter denial that it is happening, so when it comes to that dread time, I fear they will not do well at all.

Our mutt has evolved into a 1.5 kg 3.75 legged piranha. She has a high pitched noise resembling a psychotic pigeon screaming for its life. Al a low noise like escaping wind under pressure...it might also be just that.

Yeah it really sucks when they get old. My dog’s a 15 pound terrier mix from a Brooklyn shelter — I used to walk him six miles a day and fetch with him nonstop but now he’s 14 and arthritic as hell.

A meme I posted elsewhere reminds me of a house I walk past on one of my walking routes. Used to be 3 dogs, now only 2 seem to be in the back yard these days. One big lab mix is all barking and aggression when I am walking past, the golden retriever goes and gets a ball and then comes to the fence with the ball in its mouth. I guess hoping I will come play.

Dog logic.

Our Gracie, who will be 8 this year. She has been a great addition to our lives.

Looking good, Kommisar!

Thank you, sir.  Anyone would look good with that dog.

Well, we just got the sad news, Daisy the Dachshund has advanced liver cancer.  We brought her home, and are keeping her happy, and comfortable.  But I suspect she will not see the end of May, if she lasts that long.  We are trying to keep her alive long enough for my youngest to get back from school (6 hours away, and finals are coming up).  But Daisy might not make it.

She has been a really good dog, hard headed, stubborn as all dachshunds are, but a sturdy dog, that loves to go for car rides, eat chicken, and wants to be right beside you no matter where you are in the house.  Luna the Golden is also 15 and is getting ready to head to the Rainbow Bridge, so we will most likely lose both dogs this year, and both girls are refusing the accept that the dogs they grew up with are going to be leaving us.  These dogs are really the first dogs they have had for their whole lifespan, since the other dogs were older when they knew them, and they had not bonded with them dogs.

It is just one of those things, but still it hurts when one goes on.  We tried to get the youngest to say goodbye via Facetime last night but she was having no part of it.  Our oldest has just started cuddling and hugging both dogs.  Daisy cannot keep dog food down, so she is getting boiled chicken and rice, and that stays down.  She is sleeping but you can tell she cannot really get comfortable, but she is not in pain, which is a blessing.  If she starts showing that she is in pain, I will take her to the vet.

D@mn, I hate losing dogs.  I told the wife no more dogs, I refuse to have a dog out live me, and it just hurts too darn much to put them down.

Well, you and your young did enjoy the doggies, better remember that than focus on their demise, IMHO.

We are taking the dog half way to Nacogdoches so my daughter can drive the other half.  We will meet in Bryan/College Station so she can say goodbye to the dog.  She is asleep in my office right now, so I am letting her sleep rather than put her in my lap for some petting.

That sucks, I’m very sorry. My dog is an adopted Brooklyn street mutt (15-pound weird terrier hybrid). I used to have to walk him about ten miles a day, he was so hyper. Now he’s 16 years old and totally senile/incontinent but according to the vets his innards are still basically perfect. Hard to make that decision, trying to figure out whether he’s enjoying being alive anymore.

I think Daisy appreciates your family and you as much as your family and you appreciate Daisy.

Was just reading about the 1925 race to save Nome Alaska from a diphtheria outbreak. Definitely makes you love the US, those guys (and dogs) went through horrifying stuff. Best part is Togo, the best dog (better than Balto) spent the last few years of his life as a stud dog. :)

Daisy took the last ride today.  She went with her favorite toy, and favorite blanket.  Lupe and Sarah took her, and held her paw at the end.  She is going to be cremated, and her ashes spread in her favorite spot in the yard where she would lay and tan her belly.

She was a great dog, stubborn, sturdy, and loyal.  She would refuse to do things she wanted to do if she was told to do them.  Trying to train her (she is a dachshund) was an exercise in hilarity.  But she was a snuggle buddy, loved her favorite spot next to Lupe or Sarah.  She stood up to the bigger dog, and let her know she was not going to get bullied.  She loved hot dogs, and egg yolks.

She will be very missed.  I held her and told her that she was a great dog, and to wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge.
