The problem IMO is catching a guy who has an 18 hour head start, and possibly numerous supporters helping him. I'm predicting he's OCONUS already. Mexicali, BC is 700 miles from Orem. so a 10 hour drive puts him across the border before midnight yesterday. 

The provenance of the rifle may prove interesting. Even if bought with cash at a gun show or liquor store parking lot, the seller probably remembers some useful details. 

* There's always the chance that he or one of his accomplices accidentally left a print inside the receiver or trigger guard.
