Norway and Finland, they're splitters!, but the question is if any constitutional reform restarts the clock.

I was thinking a bit about what constitutes a "new" system. If the benchmark is the US and UK, even they have undergone constutional reforms (like for the Senate and House of Lords respectively) and moved towards greater democratic rights, extended suffrage to more voters, etc. Still, these were all developments within the same constitutional frameworks, notwithstanding even the odd civil war. Arguably it's the same for Sweden, despite the oscillation between constitutional and absolute monarchy, and parliamentary reform. OTOH, I would class the Swiss changes between confederation and federal republic (which it is despite officially calling itself the Swiss Confederation, just like the CSA were) as system changes.

Another question is if foreign occupation with imposed puppet regimes constitutes a break if you return to the old system after liberation? That's why I didn't even look at the Netherlands, though their constitution actually dates from 1815, older than the current Swiss one.

“The bottom line is that North Carolina, like Kansas before it, has shown that cutting taxes does not have much, if any, positive impact on job creation,” Mazerov said.

What drives state economies, he said, is state spending on education, transportation and amenities such as parks.

Mazerov said, “States are shooting themselves in the foot when they cut taxes and cut back on investments in these crucial building blocks of the state economy.”

Once again trickle down voodoo economics failed.

The Republicans keep insisting voodoo economics work, claiming a boom after every major tax cut.

That's not meeting the definition of insanity, that's outright lying and pursuit of plutocracy. They're ripping 90% of the nation off in pursuit of the interests of 1%, and they fool roughly a third of the people into supporting them with lies, fearmongering and hatemongering.

How does tax cuts equate with rip off.

No. Joe Average has to pay the bills of the state in the end, because someone has to. And he has to live with the crumbling infrastructure. The 1% make their business on the very infrastructure they do not pay their share for upkeep.

That's not how I understood her.

She said that whatever disagreement she has with the president's policy is up for the election, and that the question of whether or not the president attempted to strong-arm Ukraine into investigating the Bidens was up for impeachment, a matter of congress's duty to control the government. And that's not up for vote, but a legal (if politicized) process.

He's on a roll.

Stuart, there were attempted political assasinations in the US. Someone in a Bernie Sanders T-shirt opened fire on a group of Republican legislators. Theres also been continuous harassment of Republican officials in public, such as when out to dinner.

These are much different circumstances than I remember 30 years ago, for example.

Threre also were people who sent bombs, working or otherwise, to left wing politicians and perceived media enemies of Trump.

Since 1783, the United States has been the exemplar of democracy in action - flawed though it was and flawed(though much less so( it remains. There is good reason why it is the number one destination of immigrants, especially those of colour, and it ain't because of the paleness of most of the people.

Well said, thank you. The post above yours read like the Onion.

Apparently the original post I was responding to, much like the next one after it*, were rooted less in color on the face of it (hah!) and more on specifically religion. Perhaps not Onion worthy, but it sounds ridiculous in any modern context. Is that an ideology you subscribe to?

* Seahawk: "Because the reject the Lord as their saviour."

ETA: presumably 'they' and 'savior', I retained the direct quote rather than put letters in anyone's mouth.

Answer me this: Why are the leadership of the Democrat Party, and those on the Left ALL connected to Paedophiles, sexual abusers, and abusers of women, and defend said people?

Crickets from our resident lefties?

If you want a discussion, you need to tone down the craziness.

No craziness just a question.
From the sideline, I did not understand it was a real question, and not just an outburst.

Are there records, charges, convictions that support your claim/question? Ie, the "all" part?

It's interesting to see a loaded question with presupposed assumptions like this from a person claiming to be a police officer.

Simply stating "just a question" on that is quite remarkable.

It is more interesting to see him give a more balanced assessment of Imperial Japan than he ever would an opposing political party, and that is I why I don't respond to his "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" style of questioning.

I must have missed that one, though needless to say if he was wearing a Sanders T shirt, id be tempted to put his motives at insanity...

Seriously? I thought your news was all sorts of good at covering everything closely and properly. Hodgkinson didn't just _WEAR_ a t-shirt. He worked for the campaign.

I'm not really surprised that it didn't make the news but it was covered fairly thoroughly here on TankNet.

Representative Steve Scalise nearly died from the attack. He eventually was able to walk again.

What do you want to bet that if a Ron Paul Campaign Worker shot up a Democrat congressional event that it would have been on the European/British news for weeks?

Well seeing as your media self evidently did a piss poor Job of covering Salisbury, the Stephen Lawrence murder, the Scottish Referendum, the Life of Tommy Robinson, Grenfell Tower and your own President behaving like a clueless cock at Blenheim, it all comes down to a matter of perspective I suppose. No, I didnt hear about it. I confess my guilt.

From the truth of the history of socialism

I confess stopped reading when I hit the usual speedblocks when talking about Socialism in the US, IE the Soviet Union, international communism that kind of thing. Yes, they came from a common origin, but Socialism is not, and is distinctly different from, Communism. By way of example, I recall reading in Taubmans book on Khrushchev, that when he want to an automobile plant in the US, he has his ass kicked in a debate by a union worker (presumably a Democrat) who asked him what the hell kind of right did he have to speak for all the worlds working class. Khrushchev was still fuming about it a decade later.

If you want to look at the rise of Socialism in the Anglo Saxon world (and yes, which clearly had an impact on Marx's writings, though English Socialists, who existed before Marx, apparently couldn't stand him) then you probably want to look through the wiki entry on rise of Socialism in the United Kingdom. The tickboxes for its formation were philanthropy (which I guess makes Bill Gates a Socialist), workers groups to support families of killed miners, and Christianity, most notably the Methodist movement.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_socialist_movement_in_the_United_Kingdom

Christian socialism

The rise of Non-Conformist religions, in particular Methodism, played a large role in the development of trade unions and of British socialism. The influence of the radical chapels was strongly felt among some industrial workers, especially miners and those in the north of England and Wales.

The first group calling itself Christian Socialists formed in 1848 under the leadership of Frederick Denison Maurice. Its membership mainly consisted of Chartists (see below). The group became dormant after only six years, but there was a considerable revival of Christian socialism in the 1880s, and a number of groups sprang up. Ultimately, Christian socialists dominated the leadership of the Independent Labour Party, including James Keir Hardie.

Why this has never been explored in the US, I do not know. I guess it flies in the face of the usual perception that Socialism is synonymous with atheism. Which at least as far as Britain is concerned, is wildly off base.

Which also partly explains why the Welsh have been so prominent in the British Labour Party. The same skills that made a great orator to a Welsh Methodist preacher, are the same skills that made great orators in Parliament or elsewhere.
