the world would be a much better place if POTUS could just go to a pub in DeeCee or the Президент Российской Федерации just go for a coffee on the red square.

They usta could, but now they'd be hounded by pressies, spat on by antifa thugs, etc.

That is what I mean. the world is such a place right now, that they cannot. It is a symptom.

Lately, Fennoscandia has been enduring unusually long heatwave. Beach at Arctic Circle:

Despite the Norway-themed bikini, the beach is located at Rovaniemi, Finland.

I go outside and feel refreshed when it's 86°F instead of the 90s. 80°F with a breeze is decent for high summer here.

Yes, around 86F (or even above) daytime for weeks now. Ordinary summers 75-80F, with a few days with heat like this.

I think many of us with no serious health-issues have acclimatized, but the biggest problem society-wise is probably the draught.

Farmers are forced to slaughter their live-stock as there is too little to eat. And the fires. Many places, and out of control. The other day Polish fire-fighters, among others, were celebtrated as they arrived in Sweden to help.

Same here in Germany pretty much. Much of early crops had to be ploughed under. No fires so far, but firewatch patrols have increased and i see red cessnas regularly above the house. I don't know about the food situation for livestock. Well just this moment a few hevy drops fall, but I doubt it will bring much water.

Only positive for me personally was that the rye was dry and did not send its pesky pollen around. I am allergic to them.

In Lapland, peak temperatures have been over 32 Celsius (90F), with 28 being commonplace. 30 Celsius is fairly rare in Finland, many summers go without 30 degree limit broken anywhere.

Drought has been pretty awful, particularly in Central Finland where crops are pretty much gone. Strike of twisted irony is that last years crops were really bad because of excessive rain & cold.

Heat in Lapland is not actually as rare as one might imagine, summertimes there are just as hot and in fact often hotter than Southern Finland. It's kind of Siberian climate, high pressure areas may suck warm air from Russia and there is no sea to cool it. However entire month of heat is extremely unusual.

Forest fires have crossed the border from Russia, as they apparently don't bother trying to put those out...or maybe it is some new, subtle form of warfare

But swimming has been nice.

It was like this all over europe. we went from wet spring to wet summer to wet autumn. This year the polar opposite. So much for temperate climate. Rather swinging between extremes these last years.

No, it balances around the globe - it is 23deg C here, and it has been raining almost every day last 2 months...

That is like last years weather has been here in Germany.

Is is a veryhot, very dry summer this year north of the alps, but other parts as you say have a cold wet one this year.

Weather forecast says sixteen more days of heat. A day of rain would be fine from time to time.

Where are you based? In my neck of the woods -the Münsterland- we are forecast to drop below 30 on Wednesday and hit a chilly 24 the Monday after.

Lowe Saxony and it rains at the moment. :)

I guess the weather frog was just wrong.

edit on 31st: or not. it is hot and is going to stay that way.

The article describes them as the "burial regalia" from 1611 of Karl IX and Kristina the elder. Both crowns and the apple in the picture was stolen from Strängnäs cathedral.

regalia are crown jewels. Not the current monarch's ones, but still.

Jumping in a boat and driving off with the stolen goods really sounds like a movie.

Yesterday was still +31 here in the Arctic circle. At least nightless nights are mostly behind so it finally cools a bit for nightime. Most Nordic homes don't have air conditioning...

After tomorrow forecast finally offers usual summer weather, ie. +16 and rain...
