Scots are frugal as food in the highlands is somewhat hard to come by. Hence Haggis (heart, kidneys, lungs, oats, put in the stomach, boil, let the esophagus hang over the side of the pot for drainage, then serve). As far as I know, they don't eat the head.

But given how Iceland is very sparse for food resources, they were probably trying to eat ANYTHING they could catch. How they figured letting it rot in a hole for 3 months THEN piss on it and hang it up to dry out...

This seems as plausible as any.... a domestic argument.... 🤷‍♂️

And I always thought that the water hot dogs were boiled in was gross!

A 1,500-pound walrus named Freya has sunk several ships, causing mayhem in Oslo, Norway, this summer.

The boat-sinking behemoth has become a social media star, with pictures and videos of her antics spreading across Twitter. She's also a sensation among local residents and tourists, with the exception of some boat owners.

After complaints from locals, authorities are planning to lure the walrus onto a floating dock, from which she can be taken to another home along the coast, according to NBC News. Researchers are planning to take Freya back to her home in the Arctic Circle when it is safe, according to Euronews.

See, people, this is what happens when you let society go along with that whole "fat positivity" thing.

Causing a bit of a scandal, remains to be seen what the eventual fallout will be but so far looks like the teflon is strong on this one and nothing much will result, except perhaps fans and haters each digging in deeper in their respective trenches.

Calls for voluntary drug tests have been made after shouts from the background translating roughly to "powder-gang" and "fuck this stuff makes you feel good" etc, latest is that at the time of the video she was back from summer vacation, i.e. there was no stand-in PM nominated.

Hmm, I think I need more videos and photos in order to reach any conclusion here, guys.

Just keep em coming....

Opinion: Much ado about nothing — Sanna Marin and a very Finnish scandal

Sanna Marin's latest "partygate" is in many ways a typical Finnish scandal. Politics there tend to be so uptight that it takes some creativity to stir up a controversy, says Minna Alander.

Once again, Finland's Prime Minister Sanna Marin made international headlines. But this time it was with a video showing her at a private party, dancing with friends.

What ensued was a very classic "Finnish scandal," which is actually not a scandal at all, but because Finnish politics tend to be so uptight and slightly boring, you have to get creative to stir things up every once in a while.

It is at the same time indicative of the very high moral standards that are applied to politicians and that they are expected to live up to. Consequently, the threshold is very low for Finnish politicians to resign over what seem like rather insignificant incidents elsewhere.

For example, in 2008 then-Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva was sacked over a text message scandal: he had been sending text messages to a controversial female celebrity. Sanna Marin herself became prime minister after her predecessor Antti Rinne resigned over a scandal related to a post office strike.

Marin and her female-led government have been at the center of unusual international attention ever since taking office in December 2019. A 2021 study by the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence found that the female ministers of the Marin government receive disproportionate numbers of abusive messages and Marin herself has been frequently subject to domestic "scandals," such as posting certain selfies on Instagram or other party incidents that have earned her the nickname "party-Sanna" in the press.

Some of the more memorable Sanna "scandals" were "breakfastgate" over her breakfast expenses or the controversy over the revelation that she likes cleaning, even the official residence, herself.

I assume that her handlers, when she's drunk at international receptions, must keep her away from Poles.

I followed up on the case of former Finnish foreign minister Ilkka Kanerva mentioned in the DW piece I posted earlier:

Quote

In March 2008 it was revealed that Kanerva had sent 200 SMS messages within a month to Johanna Tukiainen, a 29-year-old erotic dancer. Kanerva had previously sent SMS messages to nude model Marika Fingerroos in 2005.[16][17][18] According to Kanerva, Tukiainen had wanted to perform with her dance group at his birthday party, and he responded to this request by text message.

On 30 March, Kanerva unexpectedly cancelled his plan to participate in Lennart Meri Conference in Tallinn, Estonia, and returned to Finland. The Hymy magazine published on 1 April 2008 printed several of the messages, and on the same morning party leader Jyrki Katainen stated that Kanerva can not continue in his position.

Kanerva was granted sick leave, and later that day it was released that his term as Foreign Minister would end on 4 April 2008 due to loss of confidence. He was replaced by Alexander Stubb.[19]

Kanerva was an infamous ladies man and his wooing of random hot women was somewhat of an embarrassment (though he did not do anything illegal). Main problem was that he lied about the issue to his Party Leader, who in turn was embarrassed when more and more of Kanerva's SMS exchanges became public. As a side note, Tukiainen did not handle her sudden fame well, she became an Ö-list tabloid celebrity and it ruined her life. I would advice against picture searching her.

Regarding the latest Marin party video, quick gauging of popular opinion points to that few people GAS about it. Most people see her party videos just amusing as they are in quite a contrast to her frosty ice queen public persona.

More party pictures and videos keep surfacing, starting to paint a picture that a) she's been partying quite a bit. also in the PM residence, b) not exactly using the best judgement as to with whom, and c) is not in control of the situation and in damage control mode. The picture above apparently taken in the press conference room by a "social media influencer" and her friends in an after party from a rock festival; some others look rather like teenager parties ...

Was she telling people by force of law that they had to hide at home? Or just setting guidance without any force of law? If the former then she should be out on her ass. If the latter, well, it's guidance....not policy or law, so largely allowable.

I think that's totally not the angle of the debate in Finland.

Was she stabbing people and yelling "Perkele!"?
