Ivanhoe Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Throwing this link here, have only dipped into it very briefly so far. https://files.americanexperiment.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Shattered-Green-Dreams.pdf
rmgill Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 On 7/20/2025 at 10:06 AM, Stuart Galbraith said: I cant speak for the American ones, but ours last far longer than that. The one near me in Nymphsfield has been there since December 1996, and its still cranking out watts. Ok. Tell us the cost to install and maintain and compare to the energy production.

NickM Posted August 3, 2025 Posted August 3, 2025 Just now, JWB said: Gosh, who woulda thunk that? Why it's almost like somebody is trying to 'un=develope/de-industrialize' these countries! Next stop: Mud huts and burning cow dung?

Who knows about any one individual plant but wind power installed costs are in most places around 1000-1500eur/kWe and full-load hours around 3000 / year. O&M costs are usually 2-3% of total capital investment so assuming 3% O&M and say 7% capital recovery factor that'd make 100-150 eur per 3 MWh or 33-50 eur/MWh, in usd about 10% more than that
sunday Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 This looks promising. Some kind of re-assessment of climate alarmism, sponsored by Uncle Sam Quote What is needed is some sane middle ground that realistically assesses climate risk. An honest assessment of climate change science is a starting point (the CWG Assessment Report), which acknowledges uncertainties and areas of disagreement. It seems like Secy Wright has the right approach to energy policy (from his Foreword): Climate change is real, and it deserves attention. But it is not the greatest threat facing humanity. That distinction belongs to global energy poverty. As someone who values data, I know that improving the human condition depends on expanding access to reliable, affordable energy. Climate change is a challenge—not a catastrophe. But misguided policies based on fear rather than facts could truly endanger human well-being. We stand at the threshold of a new era of energy leadership. If we empower innovation rather than restrain it, America can lead the world in providing cleaner, more abundant energy—lifting billions out of poverty, strengthening our economy, and improving our environment along the way

JWB Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 Bad energy and starvation, always a winning combination:
Stuart Galbraith Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 British fishing was in decline about 4 decades before the first wind farm was implanted. Talk about cherry picking.

Rick Posted August 16, 2025 Posted August 16, 2025 Hhmmm... no mention this in the global warning hoax.
Ivanhoe Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/US-National-Security-Probe-Targets-Wind-Industry.html Quote The Commerce Department just opened a Section 232 “national security” probe into imported wind turbines and parts—quietly on Aug. 13, publicly today. That matters because 232 isn’t a press release; it’s a legal on-ramp to more tariffs on top of the new 50% duty already applied to the steel and aluminum content in turbines and components. Translation: wind hardware just got pricier, and it could get pricier still. Here’s the operational read: the U.S. wind build is heavily import-dependent for blades, drivetrains, and electrical systems. In 2023, the U.S. brought in about $1.7B of wind equipment, with roughly 41% from Mexico, Canada, and China. If you tax the metal inside the machine—and potentially layer more 232 duties later—you squeeze project profit margins, renegotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs—long-term contracts to sell the power), or delay FIDs. None of those outcomes lowers your Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE—think of it as the average lifetime price per unit of electricity once you add up all the costs). With all the political meddling, including PRC money flowing into the pockets of politicians and bureaucrats, it seems nearly impossible to me to believe any total cost per kWhr for wind or solar.
