Don't Go Being Politically Insane You Climate Change Skeptics

Mr King

But then that would mean they would have to give up on using "climate change" as an excuse to exert control over OTHER peoples lives. You know, the little people, without private jets, mega yachts, limos, and $600,000 vacation homes in Vermont. The tiny proles going about their lives are the real threat against successfully fighting climate change.

Well the article does specifically call out people who believe in free market economics, which I feel isn't necessary for their point.[/b]

The best graph of temperature I've ever seen:

http://xkcd.com/1732/

Like I said kids, don't go being politically insane.

Imagine if the alt right started offering pro climate action policy prescriptions like dramatically limiting movement of persons from low carbon (3rd world) to high carbon economies (1st world), or favouring low carbon tech (aka nuclear power), or promoting carbon sustainable "fair trade" (because who can trust the PRC).

Greenpeace/Climate Action would welcome their new found allies with open arms right.... right ?

Well, there are environmental activists over here who argue for nuclear power as preferable to pumping loads of CO2 into the atmosphere. Others now say there's nothing wrong with it in principle but it's too bloody expensive & takes too long to build. So what's your argument?

BTW, poor does not necessarily equal low carbon. On average, yes, but clearing forests releases a lot of CO2. Burning forests (to clear land for farming) so carelessly that you set fire to peat beds (it happens) can release so much CO2 that it boosts a middle income country to the upper tiers of the CO2 release per head league, & in some rich countries the net effect of land use changes is to reduce atmospheric CO2. China emits more per head than the EU, despite being much poorer. And so on . . .

Also, those that believe quite strongly in the climate change being created by modern society are entirely free to discard their modern technological trappings and adopt a life as a hunter gather who does not contribute at all to the CO2 problem or any of the other pollution problems.

This.

Recently read that Leonardo DiCaprio, took a private jet from Cannes, where he was staying on a megayacht, to fly thousands of miles to accept an award for his global warming awareness efforts and then promptly flew back to continue partying with his fellow SJWs. But don't worry, he owns a Prius!

I hate hypocritical arseholes like that.

UCAR Center for Science Education staff member Randy Russell presented educational climate modeling and simulation resources as part of a virtual conference on climate science education hosted by NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) on March 12, 2016.

The conference, titled "Climate Science in the Classroom", ran from 10 AM til 3 PM Eastern Time (8 AM to 1 PM Mountain Time) on Saturday, March 12. Our presentation was during Session 2: Climate Modeling/Simulations, which started at 11:20 AM Eastern (9:20 AM Mountain).

Call for Papers
The Call for Papers for ASLI 2016 in New Orleans is Open!

With the theme of the 2016 AMS Annual Meeting, the AMS is emphasizing academic and research strength, and also connecting that research to the benefits that society gains from their science. As librarians and information professionals we know the importance and benefits of outreach to our primary clientele, the communities we serve, and in many cases the general public. Our library services and resources would be underutilized if we did not routinely and consistently promote them to our communities, and we also need to constantly strategize and plan for evolving services & resources, such as digitization projects, research data curation services, delivering reference and instruction in new ways, and collecting feedback from our users to improve our services and resources. ASLI needs to remain strong by employing outreach strategies to recruit new members, keeping current members engaged, and responding to members’ needs through surveys and discussions. ASLI invites papers addressing any of the above topics.

Oh I'm aware of pro nuclear environmentalists (eg Lovelock and Moore). But I'm also aware their ideas are generally ignored or outright disavowed by climate action activists in my nation, and also overseas. This is due to pro nuclear policies are a poor fit with the wider world view (political partisanship) of climate action/ gen zero follk. My point was that to get effective solutions - good ideas and allies can come from all points of the spectrum, and should not be dismissed because of where they sit politically.

In regard to low vs high carbon economies. Generally low carbon output is a hallmark of badly performing or undeveloped economies, such as those found in the third world. I'm aware that this imbalance is used to bolster the arguments of climate justice activists when complaining about the unfairness of climate impacts. So in short - yes, I was referring to the averages.

It is not like they are going to let something like the climate change apocalypse get in the way of being wined and dined on the tax payer dime in far off locations.

Stop giving 1st world taxpayer thefted free shit (infrastructure, medicine) to the 3rd world, and their population will crash back down to more Gaia friendly levels. Basically, the entire population of the 3rd world contributes nothing to the advancement of humanity as a species, they just eat, shit and breed.

Get as butt hurt about this fact as you like, it's as certain as the sunrise. Harden the fuck up. S/F....Ken M

Dear God in heaven, could you please run for President? I know that you won't win, but the reactions to this on a national level would be the most entertainment I can handle. . .

+1

But, it political dynamite to go after population control to stop global warming. Whether just limiting the number or limiting where they live.

Climate change is like slave trade...written by a "Pacific" (btw which nation/ethnicity is that exactly) studies academic. Most importantly though no actual policy ideas, just a loose set of accusations against the economic system, mass consumer culture, and how we all must identify as "victims" of our economic interactions.

I'm sure a high profile defender of climate science will be along to repudiate this nonsense. I won't hold my breath. But seriously, this could have been written as a troll piece by the anti climate change crowd.

Among the largest oil producers in the world there is Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, Angola and Mexico, third world countries... If Gaia is that a priority why do these primitive countries closer to the Mother don't just revolt Avatar style?

PS: China and Russia are also third world, compared to the US.

I imagine because the intended audience already shares agreement in what the policy solutions are. Marx wrote them up a long time ago.

What does this have to do with climate science?

People think that building airports and roads is racist, that doesn't mean that it involves engineering at all.

It is always to justify power over others.

The narrative changed from Global Warming to Climate Change precisely because it less falsifiable and everything that happens in climate can be put under it and utilized for political proposes.

I am having flashbacks to when the eco-commies seriously blamed a tsunami on Bush W because he didn't sign the Kyoto treaty.

Pointed out that the US abolished slavery 32 years after the British. Saudi Arabia abolished it in 1962. Some Muslim countries abolished several times. And keep on abolishing it. Time after time. Good job.

It has virtually nothing to do with actual science, but is an example of junk partisan arguments actually damaging the work of respectable scientists and degrading where the focus should be.

This academic in trying to create some cover for the hyperbole of the Kiribati President, probably thinks they are helping the cause.

Sure but the opinions of decision makers are not formed by scientist's alone.

Heck this article is basically an attempt to gin up some cover for an elected national President who made the initial comparison between climate change and slavery. A President who is a stalwart in the climate action movement, and is at the forefront of arguing that climate refugees should be recognised.
