Rickard N
Isn't there some tool that can handle partitions? /R
Ivanhoe
I use GpartEd Live for that sort of thing. Its a bootable ISO distro, you can create & delete partitions, resize, etc.
Murph
I just did a clean installation, and now the pain comes from having to re-install everything, and reset all my preferences. But I love this little laptop.
CT96
Yeah, looking at that list, I think I was in the Slackware 1.1.0-2.0 timeframe. I started with 1.1.0, and ended at 2.0. It wasn't ready, and neither was I at the time.
Murph
Anyone use or familiar with XFCE?
CT96
I have used it from time to time. Cinnamon is now my preferred desktop.
Murph
Can you give me a little information on XFCE? I saw a Mac OS/X skin/dock for it that looks nice. I have used it from time to time. Cinnamon is now my preferred desktop.
TTK Ciar
I'd love to hear about that as well. My wife has been a Mac user since forever, but she's increasingly upset with changes in MacOSX. Anything that might ease her transition to something I can support would be welcome.
Murph
I saw this: http://synetcon.deviantart.com/art/Xosemite-OS-X-Yosemite-on-XFCE-533038187 and this: https://www.xfce-look.org/content/show.php/mintymac-osx-theme-complete?content=166789 and this: http://www.noobslab.com/2016/04/macbuntu-1604-transformation-pack-for.htmlMost are skins, but the first is the best looking. Although I don't read Spanish. https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/comments/3yarus/xfce_os_x_el_capitan_wannabe/ is another one, plus: http://www.linuxslaves.com/2016/05/macbuntu-mac-os-x-yosmite-theme-for-ubuntu1604.html I'd love to hear about that as well. CT96
XFCE is very minimal. VERY minimal. Lightweight, so a good choice for a system that can't otherwise keep up, but you lose a lot of the ordinary extras - and it's not the most intuitive environment to use either. There is a reason I use Cinnamon; but there is a reason XFCE exists.
Murph
I have noticed something, on both Windows and Linux. It takes Firefox forever to load, and Chrome almost no time at all. Why is that I wonder?

Ivanhoe
I have noticed something, on both Windows and Linux. It takes Firefox forever to load, and Chrome almost no time at all. Why is that I wonder? Disable the auto-update check and see if that resolves it. Firefox seems to hang if it can't get a response out of the update servers. Murph
It is not that, it just loads lots slower than Chrome. Both in Windows and Linux. Chrome just seems "snappier" than Firefox. Murph
No, I don't think that is it since it does the same thing on both the Winders and Linux machines. I run the same extensions on both with the sole exception of Noscript on Firefox. But I am talking boot time, Chrome just loads faster, and seems more standards compliant.
