I suspect they'd have been sent to the camps later. Sort of how the alliance with Russia was great until it was not.

Well, it's now reported that in fact all victims had a migration background regardless of citizenship, three Turkish-descended and three Kosovo-Albanian youth, and a Turkish woman in addition to the Greek and Hungarian. The "Frankfurter Allgemeine" is quoting "security circles" with close friends of the perpetrator stating that he hated Turks and Arabs due to earlier incidents, considered himself an Aryan, venerated Hitler and was happy to share his birthday with him. "Spiegel" also claims to have been told by one of his friends that he forbade to call them by his "nickname" Ali because he didn't want to be taken for a Muslim.

Spiegel Online has a more differentiated commentary pointing out that ascribing some definite political motivation like "right-wing" to somebody who was fascinated with mass shootings and spent months in stationary psychiatric treatment for depression and social phobias is probably a fallacy. More manifestly, it suggests he was in fact born Ali, but had his name changed to David at some point and naturally insisted being called that from thereon. By now his full last name is being given in reports, too.

English Wiki has a full list of the victims:

  • Sevda Dağ, 45, Turkish
  • Hüseyin Dayıcık, 19, Greek
  • Selçuk Kiliç, 15, Turkish
  • Giuliano Kollmann, 18, German of Romanian origin
  • Can Leyla, 14, Turkish
  • Roberto Rafael, 15, Hungarian
  • Armela Segashi, 14, Kosovan
  • Sabina Sulaj, 14, Kosovan
  • Dijamant Zabergja, 21, German of Kosovan descent

Meanwhile both the train axe attack and Ansbach suicide bombing are officially being treated as Islamist acts; Chancellor Merkel stated as much in her preponed summer press conference yesterday. In both cases the perpetrators are said to have been in chat contact with persons from the Middle East before the attacks.

Well, the Ali vs. David confusion seems to be cleared up. Apparently the guy officially had his name changed himself in early May after he had turned 18 on 20 April. Fits in with his reported hatred of Turks and Arabs, not wanting to be taken for a Muslim and even "possibly" having converted to Christianity per his parents.

There's no new information beyond that it was a re-activated stage prop with Slovakian proofmarks and the serial number filed off, reportedly acquired via the darknet. Apparently de-activation in Slovakia used to be really basic, like glueing a stop into the barrel, until such guns became bad PR in last year's French incidents. Earlier there was a report that police were investigating a possible second gun buy by the perpetrator, but I haven't heard anything more of that. A total of 57 spent cases from the Glock were recovered; by various reports, 240 or 300 additional rounds were found in his backpack (I heard police say the latter at a press conference, so I think somebody tried to be smart and subtract 57 from ca. 300), plus some left in the magazine(s).

You know with the rate of terrorists attacks there probably should be a 'Attack xxx' topic for each country like there is 'Because xxx' topic.

Only glued in? Not going to be misused by criminals...

Standard deact for old .22 short/Flobert pistols around here was to remove pivoting breach block (basically piece of thin metal). That way they were reclassified to "alarm" pistols still capable of using using 6mm caps. I had one as a kid. :) Similar to this:

Problem came with people cutting a proper shape "breachblock" from thin steel, then loading those with .22 LR. Kaboom!

According to a German ex-IS member IS recruiters in Europe are looking for those with a criminal past in order to obtain and smuggle in weapons. In the US it is the opposite. They are looking for those with no criminal records due to the ease of obtaining firearms.

The Muslims have nothing on the Leftists.

Let me know when the rate surpasses 350 per year, which has been the mean for Western Europe for the last 45 years. The peak was 1979 with 1,019 attacks.

Reports that both the train guy and Ansbach bomber had chat contact with alleged IS members under several phone numbers, including from Saudi Arabia. Train guy was suggested to drive a car into a crowd, but had no driver's license; signed off with "see you in paradise". Bomber might have blown himself up by accident; he was supposed to remote-detonate his bomb, video the explosion and commit more attack afterwards, which would explain why he was masked in his confession video. More bomb-making material was reportedly found at his place.

Meanwhile it's also being reported that the Munich shooter may have visited a shooting range with his father on vacation in Iran last year, to which my initial reaction is a resounding "so what".

I think it is interesting, that they held contact until very short before the attacks. The wonders of mobile communication.

IS claimed him. Just a thought... Turn the IS strategy against them, start claiming every death of every IS fighter in the name of CIA, Mossad, FSB, NATO, Securité... etc.; Or even just invent new rtop secret international agency asnd use that. Heck, claim it for S.H.I.E.L.D.

After all one of their most efficient weapons recently is claiming every lone nutcase to be their success. Turn it against them...

Also start pointing out that if an attack with no dead apart from their "martyr" is a success for them, they are kinda not delivering. Bribe some Saudi cleric to start broadcasting this.

Whatever happened to the art of black propaganda?

The Global Terrorism Database of the University of Maryland actually gives an interesting view of the dead from terrorist attacks (all motives) in Western Europe since 1970 (excluding perpetrators); orange is France alone. The worst year was 1988, which included Lockerbie, though it only slightly exceeds earlier years which saw a lot of smaller attacks mainly in Northern Ireland/the UK and Italy. The best was 1993, where for some reason there was not a single dead.

Meanwhile the state interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia announced today that after a review following last year's attacks in Paris, patrol cops will start to be issued with pull-over body armor resistant to AK rounds, and cruisers will also be equipped with a second submachinegun, now fitted with laser sights (not sure whether that was stated correctly; who puts lasers on long guns except for use with NVGs anymore?).

Many people confuse red dot sights with lasers...

Plate carriers to wear over the already worn vests makes sense, but instead of additional guns more actual training with guns like shooting and tactical training to clear rooms would be more useful. But with todays austere budgets I do not see that changing.
