Apparently it wasn't clear. I was noting that this was the Australia thread due to the point made about the English not having guns.  Hence my mostly throw away comment.

Getting into a purity spiral about the quality of the plays and how they're a basis for English language literature was exactly why I figured ironic references to Shakespeare were relevant, which is, I'm sure, why Coldsteel did the same to Blackadder which is itself a reference to Shakespeare. Which I found amusing and ran with.

In other words, Shush Penfold. Same for you Agent 57. Take care of that cold.

A far more appropriate level of discourse is the quality of the scripts for 'Allo, Allo', especially those involving Lt. Gruber.

But as he was only Wehrmacht, he doesn't quite fit. And that's aside from his "little tank" being a wheeled deathtrap of course.

I is guilty of cultural appropriation. 'm sorry.

Australians warned against surge in snakes and spiders

4h ago

A weather phenomenon in the Pacific means people in New South Wales are being plagued by snakes. The ambulance service is warning people to watch out.

The residents of the Australian state of New South Wales have been warned about a surge in snakes and spiders, thanks to weather patterns.

The La Nina weather phenomenon will create conditions for more encounters with snakes and spiders, leading to more bites and medical emergencies, according to the state's ambulance service.

"As we head into summer, NSW residents have been warned to look out for snakes and spiders as there has been an increase in bites across the state," St. John Ambulance NSW said on Friday.

"Australia has some of the most venomous snakes and spiders in the world. Time is critical when it comes to venomous bites, and they should be treated as a medical emergency," the head of the first aid service, Sarah Lance, was quoted as saying by various Australian media outlets.

New South Wales residents are the most likely in Australia to be bitten by snakes and spiders, according to official statistics. The creatures that pose the greatest threat are funnel-web spiders and the eastern brown snake.

On Thursday, the health minister of the neighboring state of Queensland was interrupted during a press conference by a huntsman spider scuttling on her foot. Huntsman spiders are harmless, but can grow to 12 centimeters (5 inches).

Melbourne is not Australia, neither is Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania (have you ever looked at a map of Tasmania and realised what it represented?),

Map of Tasmania - Uncyclopedia

nor is Western Australia or the Northern Territory.

New South Wales is all that matters......

You thought that Boris Johnson was / is bad as Prime Minister.

Australia had Scott Morrison as Prime Minister until a few months ago.  He was jokingly referred to as 'Scomo from Marketing"

Now this wanker has come out at a happy clappy speaking in tongues so called Pentecostal church and has told the congregation (remembering that he was Prime Minister until very recently...

Former prime minister Scott Morrison has told churchgoers they should put their trust in God — not governments — during a speech focusing on anxiety in Perth.

Mr Morrison was a guest speaker at a birthday event for Pentecostal church the Victory Life Centre, founded by tennis champion Margaret Court, on Sunday.

In an address lasting almost 50 minutes, the sitting Cook MP said government was "important" but he was thankful "we have a bigger hope" than politicians.

In the context of people managing anxiety and mental health, in a forum of religious people...

What exactly would you expect him to say? That religion is bunk and there's nobody out there to stop you from going mental except yourself?

Girl in Newport, Melbourne unknowingly picks up venomous eastern brown snake (msn.com)

An 11-year-old girl is 'extremely lucky' to be alive after she filmed herself unknowingly holding one of the world's most venomous snakes.

The young girl had been on a walk in Newport, in Melbourne's south-west, when she came across the eastern brown snake - which is responsible for the most snakebite fatalities in Australia.

She filmed the reptile entwined around her fingers, completely unaware of how dangerous the 'snakey' was.

The child mistakenly thought the reptile was a harmless garter snake and had no hesitation in picking it up.

There is an uber driver in Melbourne who goes by the name of Darren Levy who posts video excerpts of his chats with passengers. A very large proportion of the videos involve mentions of "Special K" and the more traditional Bolivian marching powder.

The chats are usually pretty funny, by the way, and it's not so much about the drugs as it is about having good drunken nights out, sexual innuendo and, well, stuff.

Aus man jailed for raping masked intruder in home

Klay Holland, 32, faced the Supreme Court of Victoria on Tuesday when he was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment, with a non-parole period of four years and 10 months.

Holland’s victim, Shane Cox, had broken into a unit in Melton in Melbourne’s west in March 2021 armed with a knife and wearing a mask.

Cox, 36, who was high on methylamphetamine, was overpowered by Holland who was a guest at the home.

Cox was beaten with a baseball bat and was incapacitated on the floor, where Holland then raped him.

His body was found at the scene under a pile of blankets a day later by police, who arrived at the property on an unrelated matter.

He was hogtied, his mouth was duct taped and his pants were pulled down to his upper thighs.

Justice Christopher Beale described Holland’s offending as premeditated and particularly humiliating.

Well, that's an improvement... I guess? 🫢
