Panzermann
The immigration thread has been eaten by forum software gremlins, because Stuart had started it. So I'll make a new one, because last weekend the local Cologne newspaper "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" published an article about the mishandling, disorganisation, FUBAR, CYA, political correctness and chaos surrounding the events of that night. in german of course: http://www.ksta.de/koeln/geheime-silvester-dokumente-chaos-und-widersprueche-bei-der-koelner-polizei-23978530?originalReferrer= some key points:there was not only the shit going down on the square in front of the train station, on the Hohenzollern Bridge crossing the Rhine nearby was a mass panicauthorities knew early of refugees involved in the sexual harassmentschief of the emergency call centre dismissed the term "refugee"in addition to the general chaos the cell phone net broke downNorthrhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Interior tried to keep a lid on reports about a resocialisation project for north-african offenders funded by itBundespolizei (fed police) accuses City of Cologne massively in the hearing of the committee of inquiry about the events of this nightThe LEOs on the square could not see the violence in the dark and did not call for supportmany reports of patrols not been passed onThe police officer tasked with planning the night called for deployment of a complete Hundertschaft (hundredship, ~100 officers of police reserve), but was denied. and on and on for example the uniforms are not fire resistant. great when arseholes throw pyros. BansheeOne
What, the guy from Grafing? 27-year-old unemployed carpenter named as Paul H. from Gießen, Hesse, had been on basic welfare for two years. A bit of a history with drugs, Cannabis per his own statements. Two days before the attack his grandparents back home called police because he was behaving erratically, and wanted him admitted to a psychiatric institution. Police however could not establish a danger to himself or others then, and could only advise him to seek treatment. He actually checked into a Gießen hospital, but left the next morning again. He then went to Munich by train, but couldn't get a hotel room because he only had ten Euros on him. Spent the evening around Munich Central Station, then went to Grafing at about one in the morning for reasons still unknown, then seems to have attacked basically the first people he encountered at 0445 in the morning. Entered the S-Bahn and stabbed the later deceased victim directly, then another on the platform, and two more outside the station before being chased off by the train engineer and a security guard, the latter following him. When arrested by police, he was wearing no shoes and the kitchen knife in his belt, but did not resist. Police have also stated he talked of a conversion to Islam during questioning, which would match the reported shouts during the attack, but it is not clear whether that's only in his apparently disturbed mind. He was certainly not on anybody's radar for Islamist tendencies, and no such links have been reported found at this point; he was running a Youtube channel, but it only had videos of him travelling on little money, camping, fishing, etc. After appearing before a judge Wednesday last week he was admitted to a psychiatric institution. The thread you're looking for is here, BTW.

BansheeOne
Frankly, that's probably the annual average for that event; it just gets reported now due to the background of Cologne. As noted in another post, street crime in the area has taken a definite turn for the worse since last year, including the approach of "dancing up" to victims which has been known as a speciality of North Africans in the Rhineland for some time, but the perpetrators who were arrested on the weekend are no recent arrivals; two Turks, one of unclear nationality, all born in Berlin. Markus Becker
I was afraid I'd get such answer. What's worse? Increasing street crime or sexual assault not considered newsworthy? Am I happy I live in a small town. Just the weekly burglaries to worry about.

sunday
Found a source on the contents of the stickers: "En mi aldea a los nazis se les patea". That could be translated as "We kick Nazis in our village". This could be the sticker. And this is the twitter account of the Antifascist group those individuals belong to: https://twitter.com/antifaciempo?lang=es Seems they belong to some extreme left group, and that they have no qualms with Leftists doing violence, as their support for that thug Bodalo shows. It could be possible that they thought they were engaging is some kind of anti-German activity, as our local Far Left thinks of Merkel as a reincarnation of old Adolf, for instance, because of the budget discipline enforced by the EU. Well, seems a case of Matt 26:52, at least. Another possibility is that the Russians do not understand Spanish, and thought they were dealing with some neo-Nazis. So this could have been one of the most hilarious cases of blue-on-blue (or red-on-red) in recent history. Edited June 17, 2016 by sunday
BansheeOne
The post in the "Because Germany" thread on the fortcoming BKA report on the events of New Year's Eve reminded me - on the old immigration thread that was killed by Stuart's FSB assassination droids I once pointed out that the 2015 national crime report would have a dedicated section on crime by immigrants. This was released in May already; I'm sticking it here as the next best place. Some demographic data for reference first: at the end of 2015 Germany had a total population of 81.8 million, of which 9.1 million non-citizens, including 1.2 million refugees and asylum seekers which the report refers to as immigrants in a narrow sense. IOW, there were 11.1 percent non-Germans, including 1.5 percent immigrants. One has to keep in mind that of the latter, by far the most arrived in the last three months of the year. Of the non-Germans overall, 1.5 million or 1.8 percent were Turkish; 740,000 or 0.9 percent Polish; 600,000 or 0.7 percent Italian; 450,000 or 0.55 percent Romanian; 370,000 or 0.45 percent Syrian; 340,000 or 0.4 percent Greek; 300,000 or 0.35 percent Croatian; 230,000 or 0.3 percent each Bulgarian, Serb and Russian; 210,000 or 0.25 percent Kosovar; and 170,000 or 0.2 percent Bosnian. Another thing to keep in mind however is that foreign suspects who show up in the crime statistics must not necessarily be residents, but may be travellers, some indeed in criminal affairs like the organized Eastern European gangs committing hit-and-run burglaries, robberies, blowing up ATMs, etc. In fact one focus of the report (page 73-81) was the current burglary epidemic, with cases in 2015 seeing a 9.9 percent increase over the previous year for a total of 167,000 with 17,670 suspects. Of those, 7,096 or 40.2 percent were non-German, including 1,041 or 5.9 percent asylum seekers - and 4,411 or 25 percent "visitors and other". By nationality, 11.3 percent of non-German suspects were Serbian, 10.8 Romanian, 7.9 Turkish, 7.1 Albanian, 7.0 Polish, 6.4 Georgian, 4.2 Kosovar, 3.3 Croatian, 3.0 Bosnian and 2.8 Italian. The Georgians have been particularly pointed out to often apply for asylum with the dedicated purpose of committing crimes in Germany; of the 6.4 percent with that nationality, 4.2 were asylum seekers, and apparently there has been something like a tenfold increase in suspects with that nationality over the previous year; these Eastern European gangs are well-organized crime rings which recruit at home, organize the trip and expect their foot soldiers to achieve a certain yield from burglaries etc. Of course the Georgian example is an outlier because most of those types are EU citizens or from "safe countries of origin". Georgians don't come in huge numbers either while the more classical refugees and asylum seekers of last year in turn don't figure in that particular field, but as noted the other focus (page 64-72) is on numbers of non-German and immigrant (narrow definition) suspects in general crime. There are two approaches, one including offenses against rules for immigration and residence of aliens which obviously are commited by non-citizens in the vast majority of cases (only 0.3 percent of suspects there are German, probably mostly for trafficking etc.); and one excluding those to make crime levels comparable to the German citizen population. In the refugee crisis, these offenses naturally increased considerably to more than double the number of the previous year, from 156,000 to 403,000 with 388,000 suspects. Excluding those, of 2,012,000 suspects in 2012 there were 556,000 or 27.6 percent non-Germans, including 114,000 or 5.7 percent immigrants. Non-Germans were particularly overrepresented in pickpocketing (75.7 percent, including 33.5 percent immigrants); this is another classical field of Eastern European gangs, but also North Africans which have combined it with distracting victims by unwanted physical proximity for some time before the events of Cologne. Other heavily above-average offenses are forgery (43.9 percent, including 16.3 percent immigrants - probably often related to passports and residency documents), shoplifting (43.5 percent, including 14.2 percent immigrants), the abovenoted burglaries (40.2 percent, including 10.2 percent immigrants - note that this is still a wider definition than the official asylum seekers I stated to represent 5.9 percent of suspects above) and fare evasion (40.0 percent, including 12.3 percent immigrants). Of note, in sexual offenses non-German suspects make up 20.5 percent, including 4.8 percent immigrants. By nationality of non-German suspects in general crime sans immigration offenses, 13.3 percent are Turkish (a considerable decrease from >20 before 2012); 9.4 percent Romanian (up from <7); 8.0 Polish (about the median); 4.8 Serbian (trending slightly up); 4.3 Italian (trending slightly down); 3.3 Bulgarian (trending slightly up); 3.0 Kosovar (trending up); 2.6 Syrian (naturally trending up with the increase in population); 2.5 Albanian (considerably increased from 0.8 or less in previous years); and Algerians and Moroccans 2.1 each (a marked increase, particularly for the Algerians). There's lots more of data of course, but that should give an overview. Edited October 14, 2016 by BansheeOne

Panzermann
Who are Kosovars? They are Albanians They show up in statistics as Kosovars. Remember, Germany fought for a "free Kosovo". however phony this "state" is. eastern european gypsies will also show up in the statistics as romanian, hungarian or bulgarian. And not to forget those without papers who are or claim to be stateless. Would not surprise me if the latter do not show up in files, because stateless persons do not exist for the administration and the overworked police officers don't bother to file in the first place. Mobius
How are they going to break it down when all the refugees become German citizens? Then there will be a big bump in German crime without anyone figuring it out. Meanwhile less that 6 months to another night of Merkle-madness. Until then cops can go about the important work of rousting kids making swastikas out of ice-cream sticks.
BansheeOne
There are statistics on everything in Germany. There were 9.2 million German citizens (one in eight) with a migration background in 2014, meaning first- or second-generation immigrants. This includes 2.4 million naturalized citizens with 1.2 million second-generation descendants, 3.1 million ethnic Germans from Eastern Europe and the fUSSR with 1.1 million descendants, and 1.4 million kids with German citizenship by birth but one or two foreign parents. They are of course already part of the German-German population for purposes of criminal statistics. Some groups tend to be conspicious, ironically including ethnic Germans from the fUSSR which were given automatic citizenship until the law was changed in 2000, but were sometimes very much removed from their German roots - particulary the kids for whom Germany was a completely strange land - and suffered from many of the typical problems of unintegrated immigrant groups like unemployment, alcohol/drug abuse, violence (mostly among each other) and crime. By contrast, German citizens of Polish descent are considered the best-integrated group even though Polish citizens in Germany are somewhat significant in crime statistics. So it seems a matter of integration more than of ethnicity. And in the end, naturalization requires at least eight years of legal regular residence in Germany, an unlimited stay permit (recognized asylum seekers and refugees get initial permits for three years, the increasing number of subsidary protected for one year; unlimited permits can be issued after seven years), passing an immigration test and demonstrating sufficient command of the German language, providing your own upkeep and, quite naturally, no criminal convictions; so this is no issue. BansheeOne
While I'm throwing about demographic data, the Federal Bureau of Statistics published its preliminary migration report for 2015 today. Unsurprisingly, total immigration reached a record high of 2,137,000 last year, but emigration was also very high at 998,000. Population in Germany thus grew by about 1,139,000 in balance. Among immigrants, 45 percent (970,000) were EU citizens, 13 percent (277,000) from other European countries, 30 percent (634,000) from Asia, five percent (113,000) from Africa, two percent (48,000) from the Americas, and a miniscule 4,000 from Australia and Oceania, plus 93,000 stateless or undetermined. In detail, there were 310,000 Syrians, 221,000 Romanians, 191,000 Poles, 121,000 Germans (both foreign-born and returnees), 86,000 Bulgarians, 85,000 Afghans, 69,000 Albanians, 65,000 Iraqis, 61,000 Croats, 58,000 Hungarians, 57,000 Italians, 44,000 Kosovars, 40,000 Serbs, 28,000 Greeks, 26,000 Chinese and Indians each, 25,000 Macedonians, 24,000 Spaniards, Turks and Pakistanis each, 22,000 Bosnians and Russians each, and 21,000 Americans. Among emigrants, 138,000 were German, 129,000 Romanian, 128,000 Polish, 47,000 Bulgarian, 38,000 Hungarian, 34,000 Italian, 33,000 Serb, 24,000 Turkish, 23,000 Albanian, 22,000 Kosovar, 21,000 Croatian, 17,000 American, 16,000 each Spanish, Greek, Bosnian and Chinese, 15,000 Indian, 13,000 French, 12,000 Macedonian, and 11,000 each Russian, Slovakian and Syrian. Highest net immigration was by Syrians at 298,000, followed by 92,000 Romanians, 82,000 stateless or undetermined, 80,000 Afghans, 63,000 Poles, 60,000 Iraqis, 47,000 Albanians, 40,000 Bulgarians and Croats each, 24,000 Italians, 22,000 Kosovars, 21,000 Pakistanis, 20,000 Hungarians, 16,000 Eritreans, 14,000 Iranians, 12,000 Greeks and Macedonians each, 11,000 Russians and Indians each, and 10,000 Ukrainians, Chinese and Nigerians each. There are very few groups with a net emigration balance, basically 18,000 Germans and some small change: 287 Turks, 11 Angolans, and some legacy citizenships of countries who have since split up, like 594 from Serbia and Montenegro, and 23 from Sudan.
