Ultimax 100 Mk IV (with STANAG mag well for the USMC IAR trial)

Rejected in favor of HK416-ish rifle. Oh... what a mistake.

TBH, I am only guessing this is the Mk IV.

The biggest different between this and the Mk III is the addition of a mag well for taking standard STANAG mags. Supposedly in the Mk IV version the mag well is removable so you can use the proprietary Ultimax 100-rd drum.

Has Mk III bayonet lug long barrel. Has a folding butt.

This one looks like an interim between the Mk III and Mk IV since it has Picatinny rails, but only at the receiver. And the bipod is the integral Mk III version. Probably a home conversion or an interim version.

Ultimax 100 Mk V (with another different folding stock)

The bayonet lug has returned on the long barrel version.

Bipod is again no longer an integral part of the weapon but just a Picatinny rail attachment.

No QCB on the long barrel version.

Has different front leaf sights.

Biggest change is that the mag well is now a permanent fixture which means the proprietary Ultimax 100-rd drum cannot be used.

The front leaf sights are back with the QCB in this short barrel version.

It used to be only the Air Force or Navy get the good-looking girls.

2LT Joelle Cheong

Reminds me of a recent report in a Bundeswehr publication about soldiers from Singaporean 48th Armor Regiment training with Panzerlehrbataillon 93 in the Upper Lausitz exercise area, including a female company commander by name of Cpt. Vivien Lee.

LOL Cpt Lee looks like she is giving her fingernails a manicure.

:D

I'm pretty sure what she has there is one of the Bundeswehr unit insignia you button to the breast pocket of your uniform shirt/jacket. With the guy holding a framed something in the back, I suppose they were exchanging the usual gifts.

T75s 2-seater version

Shark mouths were only painted on the two-seaters.

Quite odd to have Sgt Chua and Cpl Ravi stenciled on the fuselage, since all pilots have to be officers.

Much sought-after by old planes brokers as RSAF Hunters were the most highly modified, well-maintained airframes.

Terrex II (SAIC Terrex)

Under consideration by USMC in ACV trials

Other Singapore stuff trialed by US:
Ultimax 100

Bionix AFV

All failed.

Unlikely US will field anything not originating from a US or European company.

Terrex III or Sentinel II for Australian MCRC trial. Has some shortcomings. While the Terrex itself has served in the SAF for many years, in its competition form as the Terrex III, with its new turret etc, is a completely new vehicle.

This Terrex III reminds me of the Ultimax-100 in its latest Mk8 configuration - disfigured beyond recognition.

I thought Singapore has Aster 30. Or has it not entered service yet?

Aster not yet in service. The Bloodhounds were replaced by:

Rapier,

then the Hawk,

and Rafael Spyder

We also have the Igla. IIRC, the only Russian-developed arms we have.

I'll note that Singapore takes the cake when it comes to dispersed hard stands and hardened shelters for it's aircraft. I especially like how they have ready response bunkers with taxiways directly onto the runway for rapid sorties.

Are there no secrecy anymore? These places used to be blanked out on all maps.

Another measure to ensure that our planes get to land after all the runways are cratered.

Methinks RSAF = Republic of Singapore Air Force.

Asters are with the Navy.

An order for land-based Aster 30 was announced in 2013.

Chino says not yet in service. It was reported that Singapore's not buying the full SAMP/T system, but integrating the Asters with its existing radars & control systems. Dunno know how long that takes.

Warthog ATV

UK version of locally-developed Bronco ATTC.

Replaced the BAE Viking in Afghanistan after a quarter of the fleet of Vikings were destroyed by Taliban bombs. Warthog served with good results. Saved British lives, killed enemies. Amphibious. The first Asian-built vehicle to serve in a western army. And not just ANY western army - the best one. IMO. The deal itself is nice money but not a lot £150m for 115 vehicles.

The UK uses the infantry carrier version with either a HMG, GPMG or AGL. Also an ambulance, a command vehicle and a repair and recovery vehicle.

Bronco ATTC (All Terrain Tracked Carrier)

locally developed

Operational around 2001

400 - 600 in service

Amphibious without preparation 5km/h

Swedish concept, US Caterpillar Engine, Canadian rubber tracks 60km/h

C-130 transportable.

Interesting fact:

"In addition, the AAV has a semi-autonomous rear cabin. When uncoupled the unmanned cabin can be steered by remote control for dangerous missions such as mine clearance. The rear unit can be customised for a variety of independent or complimentary roles."

Father of the Bronco. The Bv 206 in SAF service. We operate a few hundred of these before developing the Bronco. A case of "reverse engineering"? ; P

Igla?
