sunday Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) I'll be staying with friends spitting distance from the NRA museum in Fairfax. Where is our schwerpunkt? Again, I would say the Sheraton Reston. Reston Town Center looks like a nice place to have dinner usually, so that could be a secondary meeting place - there are car parks there, in case you could not use the hotel shuttle. BTW, I am planning a shopping expedition to the REI store in Fairfax, but probably before your arrival. Edited August 16, 2016 by sunday
Corinthian Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 BTW, I am planning a shopping expedition to the REI store in Fairfax, but probably before you arrival. OOooooooh! Nice!
Harold Jones Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 He'd have to make a side trip to Colorado for that..
Fritz Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 How do I get the AAA rate? I went to Orbitz and saw no such option, went to the Sheraton site and also no option.
Harold Jones Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 When you get to the select room stage you should see rate preferences on the left side of the page. Scroll down and you'll see the option to choose Automobile Association. You will have to uncheck one of the default options since they only let you search for 4 rate classes.
Fritz Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 OK I found it. Now... you can have AAA package with free parking or with free breakfast... but not both. I'll take the parking I guess.
BansheeOne Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 Shutting down, heading for TXL for connecting flight to Frankfurt.
Harold Jones Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 OK I found it. Now... you can have AAA package with free parking or with free breakfast... but not both. I'll take the parking I guess.I had to modify my reservation because my flights changed (due to my calendar reading issues) and I could only get one or the other, opted for breakfast. I will try to flex my frequent stayer muscle at check in and convert breakfast for two into breakfast for one and parking.
Fritz Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I've booked for 19th and 20th. I'll stay in Baltimore sunday night and then meet with everybody at the museum on monday.

BansheeOne Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 (edited) Sunday and I are at the hotel. I got upgraded from premium economy to business class for the Frankfurt-Washington flight, which was extremely nice. We subsequently lounged at Dulles for a long time in the vain hope for a hotel shuttle and eventually just took a taxi. The remaining problem is that the hotel system doesn't accept my credit card even though the ATM in the same building does. Have to sort that out tomorrow. ETA: As posted in the hotel, the shuttle leaves only on top of every hour from section 2H of the curb for these things. Edited August 18, 2016 by BansheeOne
Fritz Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) USMC Museum in the morning Define "morning" please? If I leave really early I will definitely be there in the morning. From my home to the hotel is about 3.5h so I can realistically be there 9:30-10am. Edited August 18, 2016 by Fritz
rmgill Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) And I'm waving off.Work has crap that needs doing for projects that are spooling up to 11 right before election season. Sorry guys. I can still coordinate and look things up from my internet connection if needs be. Feel Free to call if need's be. RE VMMV, go to the left of the house down the drive to what looks like the Hangers. The Second hangar is where the active shops are. The first is mostly storage. Marc Sehring should be around there. I'll nail down contact info for him for the friday visit so it goes off. BansheeOne Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) Sorry to hear that. Was the VMMV tour supposed to start at 1400, 1500, or run from the former to the latter? Depending upon driving time, we could probably easily start the USMC Museum at 1100-1200, giving Fritz a relaxed approach. Or we could do it on Saturday in addition or instead of Udvar-Hazy, since everybody who has not been to the latter will be here all week. Credit card issue solved. As I suspected, it was just a matter of swiping it through the reader one way rather than both ways, which I've never seen done before ... Impressive thunderstorm last night, rainy this morning. I expected worse from the weather; yeah, it's very warm and humid, but nothing I haven't experienced in European summers. Sunday's chief aim for today is finding a barber shop to get his beard trimmed. I'm in room 684, he's 678. Edited August 18, 2016 by BansheeOne
CT96 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Welcome to NoVA. I'll be ducking out of work about 1700 local today and have through the weekend. Hopefully my head cold is on the mend so I don't run the risk of sharing this particular joy with our international guests... I was watching that storm form last evening while I was doing my PT. Glad I got home before it hit. Yes, it's warm and humid... but SO much nicer than it was last weekend. It was brutal last Saturday. Yesterday was actually quite nice. Do we have an evening rally point/plan?
BansheeOne Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 I don't know, do you have an alternate suggestion to the hotel? We don't currently have personal transport of course.
Fritz Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Your rain arrived in NJ at some point late at night, it was wet this morning. I hope it doesn't rain this evening, I have to replace my front brakes before I leave.
