I do, and that breakfast had too many carbs some years ago, too.

According to a quite old thread on FlyerTalk, Reston city center is only 5 minutes away walking, so there should be breakfast alternatives.

Ugh, if it's like the World of Beer over in Ashburn, they have a decent selection of odd beers but the music is at club levels loud.

Once again, what is the actual plan for 20-21st? I am considering arriving in the area Sat morning and staying at the Reston hotel for Sat night at least but I need to know when the Sat events start.

Well, core weekend activities would still be the Udvar-Hazy Center and possibly the USMC Museum and range event. Since VMMV will have to be on a weekday per Ryan, it will likely be Friday, maybe Monday. Tuesday currently looks like a DC day with the Capitol tour planned. All else, USS Monitor Center, Washington Naval Shipyards and cryptology museums plus sundry ACW battlefields would further coalesce around that.

Talked today with Ryan, he is going to insist about the VMMV.

Currently, I think we are going to spend 17th being used to the hotel, and making a visit to Reston.

18th could be Udvar-Hazy, or some excursion to the National Mall.

19th-21th, VMMV/range day, at the moment.

Some local input would be appreciated...

I arrive on the 19th, so if we could make the 20th Udvar-Hazy that would be great. I don't think Harold arrives until the 19th either.

I'm plugging in those suggestions.

Wednesday, 17 August - Berlin Cell and Sunday arriving IAD at 1555

Thursday, 18 August - European contingent decompression routine; possibly Arlington National Cemetery

Friday, 19 August - Harold arriving IAD at 0500, also Allan; possibly VMMV

Saturday, 20 August - Udvar-Hazy Center

Sunday, 21 August - possibly range event combined with ACW battlefield visit

Monday, 22 August - alternate possibility for VMMV visit

Tuesday, 23 August - Tour of US Capitol at 0940, walk National Mall

[...]

Saturday, 27 August - Berlin Cell and Sunday leaving from IAD at 1525

Additional activities to fill in or substitute for possibilities not taken: USMC Museum Quantico, USS Monitor Center, Washington Naval Yard Museum, National Electronics Museum, Cryptology Heritage Museum, moar museums, moar ACW battlefields.

We could schedule some activities in high, cool places, to have some rest days away from the hot DC weather.

Any interest in a baseball game? The Potomac Nationals, a farm team for the Washington Nationals, will be home from the 19th-25th. Since it is a minor league team the tickets and concessions are affordable. It looks like their stadium is less than 50 miles from the hotel.

This more or less works for me, then I can be there 19-22, though I've been to Udvar-Hazy, I could probably do something else then with my friend, or if we swap that with the electronics museum that would be perfect.

Ok to that ballgame but, are the hotdogs any good at that stadium?

Looks like the Reston Town Center is quite a nice place, according to yelp.com reviews.

I could not repress a giggle when reading about this establishment.

Both USS Wisconsin, and USS New Jersey are about 2 hours away by car/train. Perhaps we could spend a day in Philly and another in Norfolk, too. Or one day in one of those places.

RE VMMV, Marc is at an event this weekend and then wants to talk with me about when to do the ersatz tour.

We need to do some planning around transportation. For stuff in Washington itself, transit should work fine. For Udvar-Hazy, taxis to/from the hotel look like the best way. What other transport will we have on hand for other venues?

Sunday reminded me of your thread. I was gonna suggest going to see the Frederick (Maryland) Keys instead, as they have an older, and far more charming park and location (tons o' Civil War history in/around Fredneck).

However, they have an away series over those dates . . .against the Potomac Nationals. :P

I think there are Uber vans, and that they would be a better alternative to the unreliable metro system of DC, but Harold is the subject expert there.

For BB visiting, Uber/Amtrak looks the best option in case the local contingent has other things to do.

Concentrating long distance travel in a few days and renting one or two vehicles is always a possibility.

When I'm present I'll be able to transport 2 or 3 people depending on whether I'm on my own or I bring my friend.

Sorry folks... I haven't been available during normal business hours to contact any of the ranges to see about rates and scheduling a range day in the window. Tomorrow is certainly not going to change in that regards, though Friday there is a slim chance I can call....

As for transportation, I have my POV which seats 4, so should be good for VMMV, Udvar-Hazy, and if I can get one scheduled, the Range.
