AZAF Il-76 transporting Azerbaijani troops for joint exercise held in Kazakhstan.

 

Exercises will involve the armies of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

 

Azerbaijani Su-25 MLs are also participating, including #35 which takes the number of visually confirmed upgraded Su-25 MLs to 5.

No need to: Now Turks are demanding from Armenians to remove Russian borderguards from all Armenian border (previously, it was done only in Erevan airport). So quite likely soon we will see something interesting from Turkish side (but capitulation of Armenians is more likely).

The corridor between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan exclave is another matter. North-South corridor between Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran is an entirely separate topic. 

According to the ceasefire agreement of 2020, Russia’s FSB was to supervise the corridor between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan exclave (this was separately mentioned alongside general opening of transportation links). This is where Armenia had a change of heart, and they became against any Russian control of the corridor. They argue that it would mean loss of Armenia’s sovereignity. Hence the deadlock.

Btw, Iran has also come out with statements against this corridor on highest level, as they argue that it would “sever Iran-Armenia border”.

Remarks from MOD spokesperson on last year’s 1 day military operation that resulted in capitulation of separatist regime.

In only few hours Azerbaijani troops took control of 406 km2, out of 3000 km2 that was still controlled by separatist regime (areas under responsibility of Russian PK contingent). 

The separatist regime had no choice but to capitulate after Azerbaijani troops had taken control of all road networks.
 

Translation from Azerbaijani:

“I should note that a part of the commando, mechanized and motorized rifle units of the Ground Forces, some groups of the Air Force, Navy and Special Forces, as well as a limited number of personnel and military equipment of rocket-artillery and engineering-fortification units were involved in this operation. Due to high professionalism, our units involved in the operation were able to skillfully break through the positions that the enemy had established and strengthened over a long period of time.”

“The effective application and effective use of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, artillery systems, military aviation and radio electronic combat equipment, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, played a major role in the successful outcome of the operation.”

“As in the Patriotic War and other operations, the main instruction of the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Supreme Commander-in-Chief, was to carry out the assigned tasks with minimum loss of personnel. For this purpose, as soon as the operation started, the high-precision weapons in the arsenal of our Army were launched against the legitimate targets of the enemy. 1761 targets of the enemy were destroyed by accurate strikes. During the execution of the tasks, our units, acting in mutual communication, achieved success in all directions and captured more than 90 combat positions of the enemy in a short period of time.”

“I must mention one fact. The operation was carried out in 13 directions, five in the north and eight in the south. Taking advantage of our experience in the Patriotic War and taking into account the relief of the area where the operation took place, our units moved mainly in small groups. This ensured rapid movement and created a surprise effect for the enemy. As a result of this, our units advanced 5-26 kilometers deep into the enemy in the direction of Aghdara-Asgaran, Khankendi-Khojavand, Sugovushan-Vang, Tazakend-Syrkhavand, as well as Khankendi-Khojaly and took control of all the roads in those directions. After a few hours, our special purpose units, which infiltrated into the depth of the enemy and advanced 9.5 km, successfully completed the task of fully ensuring access and exit control to the territory in all directions.”

“It can be said that the fate of the operation was successfully resolved in our favor. It was after these advantages that we achieved as a result of the joint action of our Armed Forces that the leadership of the separatist regime and the command of the remnants of the Armenian armed forces had to appeal for surrender. The Azerbaijani Army, demonstrating high professionalism, conducted an anti-terrorist operation within the norms and principles of international humanitarian law, without targeting any civilian person or object, and forced the surrender of 15-18 thousand military groups in less than 24 hours.”
