sunday Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 We should wait for what Radio Yerevan has to say in the matter, perhaps.
AttilaA Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Seems like an Armenian S-125 was taken out.
glenn239 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 What caused this flare up? The Azeris seem to have initiated it?

Both sides blame each other - and in this region, where every stone was debated (and fought for) for centuries, and every side have border map of their own version (dating to favorable time period) , it is next to impossible to tell who is tight and who is wrong. But it is definitely not in Russian interests to have this war now, when AZ is becoming bridje between Rus and Iran from https://rg.ru/2022/07/12/iz-mumbai-v-piter.html
Roman Alymov Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Both AZ and AM blocked TikTok to prevent leaks about troops movements... In Erevan, opposition is demanding PM Pasinyan resignation.

glenn239 Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 Has Armenia done anything to rectify it's deficit in drone warfare since losing the last war?
urbanoid Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 (edited) Armenia is not amused with the CSTO reaction, or lack thereof https://newizv.ru/news/world/16-09-2022/erevan-raskritikoval-reaktsiyu-odkb-na-zapros-o-predostavlenii-pomoschi Edited September 16, 2022 by urbanoid

I'm affraid Armenia have not done anything to improve their defence since they win first Karabakh war decades ago - since then they (as state system) chereshid their nationalism and belief that "turks" are sort of useless as soldiers. Loosing second Karabakh war was not a lesson - or too much blow, so nothig was done to learn the lessons and improve positions. But taking into consideration how limited are Armenia's resources, there are hardky ways for significant improvement, as far as i remember AZ mil budjet is bigger then total AM budjet....

AZ defence budget = 3 billion USD, Armenia's state budget $3.2 billion. Armenia's latest defence budget was reported to be $711 million. In terms of PPP, the countries are close, so Azerbaijan can outspend Armenia by factor of about 3 or 4. Also, on top of that, they have two rich backers. Edited September 17, 2022 by Yama
Yama Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Loss of around 4000 killed, which Armenia suffered in last war, is terrible for such a small country. It is something like 3 or 4 times the loss rate of which Ukraine has suffered in present war.
Strannik Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) Armenia proper - pop: 2.8mln Armenians in Russia: 1.2-2mln Independence is sure sweet. Now try to survive. Edited September 17, 2022 by Strannik

Also, on top of that, they have two rich backers. I’m not sure if GDP figures can tell the whole story. Azerbaijan had $16 billion trade surplus in January-July months. Armenia exports $3 billion annually. As for GDP, Azerbaijan’s nominal GDP should be around $75 billion by year end. And PPP GDP $180 billion? Armenia’s nominal GDP is $13-14 billion, PPP GDP $30 billion? But like said, there is more to it than GDP figures. Edited September 17, 2022 by AttilaA
AttilaA Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) Pelosi is visiting Armenia. Someone must not have told her and the delegation that Armenia is a member of CSTO and hosts Russian military bases. Edited September 17, 2022 by AttilaA
