Most noticeable is a total lack of any attempt of concealment.

Strfange to see smartphone mountain war video without traditional "Snackbar"

Von Braun would be happy.

As for the lack of aloha snackbar running commentary/chanting, I think YouTube has killed that. I was searching for old jihadi videos by Daesh and oddly enough couldn't find any on YouTube (or maybe my search skillz just suck).

Still, must admit, that launch video looks neat. Almost like a video game cut scene. I cant help think and be reminded of V-2 launch.

Re video - looks like there are no protective masks used, which is a violation of the rule of use, since oxidizer is RFNA, releasing NO2 (orange cloud at the launch).

No, the ISIS clips were all pulled by YouTube because "community rules"/"hate speech" (in all fairness, if they didn't qualify, what would).

Unfortunately, it's also a loss of intelligence. Maybe they just should have force-muted the sound, but I suppose YouTube's ContentID and other automated responses aren't exactly made for granular responses.

Video of aftermath of Armenian ambush on Azeri infantry platoon(s), a few days before, with English subtitles. Interesting that Azeri military boots lace eyelets show significant amounts of rust.

WARNING: lots of corpses.

A visit to the positions of the Armenian unit from the video above. Trenches lined by wooden logs, just like in the old days. A large number of old men, the Republic of Artsakh has mobilized its male population. The morale seems good.

An impression of the defenders of Hadrut:

Again, this can not be stressed enough, for an army on the defensive this is incredible lack of any attempt of concealment.

If the mobilized that heavy, it seems unlikely they plan to pull the plug on it yet.

They know their only choice is between being killed in the trench or in the ethnical cleansing. This is Caucasus where prisoners are not taken and civilians are not spared. History of previous Nagorno-Nagorno-Karabakh war makes all '90s Balkan shit looks like picknick.

Yes, to my regret I've not studied it nearly enough, but little I've read sounded positively horrific. Even before the civil war and the USSR finally collapsed, they were having what sounded uncommonly like Pogroms.

I think Putin would regard a general worsening of his reputation as taking him closer to Stalin. I honestly dont think he gives a shit, as long as he keeps in power.

I was thinking more about the reaction of Russian nationalists, which I suppose would be on the side of relatable Armenia. Leaving their brothers at the (doubtful) mercy of Erdogan, that kind of thing.

Also, the performance of Russian military hardware is somewhat tied to the Armenian performance, even though Azeri's also have Russian material the headlines show Israeli and Turkish drones.

Tomas de Val's "Black Garden" is pretty decent English language source. It is not perfect, but probably the best you can get.

Soviet military hardware.

Armenia/Artsakh is fighting a military that has an order of magnitude more resourcing. But Artsakh only has to survive, to force the Azeris to grapple.

Again, typical Western mistake. Actually “Russian nationalists” of ethnic “Russia for Russianns” sort (like Navalny was before discovering “anti-corruption” is more safe and rewarding than “anti-immigration”) hate both Armenians and Azeris. Yes the fact Armenians are the most ancient Christian nation help a bit, but only a little as this guys are often anti-Christian followers of artificial “ancient Slavic” pagan cults (see Azov Regiment pagan rituals).

The guys who see situation as “leaving their brothers at mercy of Erdogan are not Russian nationalists, but their opponents, let’s call them “Russian imperialists”. For them ethnicity is not important – their position is “Russian is any person who is called Russian by enemies”. This group is very diverse in ideological believes  - see example of Donbass where it was normal to have Cossack company as part of Communist battalion under command of Russian Orthodox  Monarchist.

Very interesting interview about the origin of the conflic, only 6 minutes long. His reference to the newly created "Slav club" in December 1991 made me laugh...

BBC talked to Levon Ter Petrossian, first President of Armenia.

The consequences of bunching up and the noted lack of concealment:

Another Armenian S-300 site goes up in a large explosion, some speculate following a strike by an Israeli LORA missile.
