A senior doctor working at a public hospital in Paris faces litigation for trying to sell an X-ray as a digital artwork. The head of public hospitals in Paris slammed the move as "disgraceful" and "scandalous."

A senior French surgeon is facing legal action for allegedly trying to sell a patient's X-ray as a so-called NFT digital image, without permission.

French online investigative publication Mediapart first reported on the incident on its website on Saturday.

The image in question is an X-ray of one of the survivors of the 2015 Bataclan theater siege. It showed the forearm of the victim with a bullet embedded in it.

The image was placed on sale on a website specializing in NFT sales with a price tag of $2,776 (€2,446).

Paris public hospitals slam doctor's actions

Martin Hirsch, the head of Paris's public hospitals, described the doctor's actions as "disgraceful" and "scandalous." Hirsch said a criminal and professional complaint would be brought against the surgeon.

"This act is contrary to sound professional practice, puts medical secrecy in danger, and goes against the values of AP-HP (Paris hospitals) and public service," Hirsch's statement read.

According to Mediapart, the unidentified victim was described as a young woman whose boyfriend was one of the 130 people killed when Islamic extremists attacked a stadium, restaurants and cafes, and the Bataclan theater in Paris in 2015.

The online publication asked for a response from the surgeon who reportedly said the sale was "an error."

First NFTs are a stupid thing to spend money on.  Second this should be a slam dunk, hopefully the surgeon will be slapped with a painfully large fine/restitution order.

A teacher was killed and two other people severely wounded Friday in a knife attack at a school in the town of Arras in northeastern France, police and regional officials said.

The attacker, according to French Police was of Chechen origin and reportedly shouted 'Allahu akbar'

Mohammed Mogouchkov was under surveillance against Islamic radicalism since July.

French President said that authorities prevented another attack.

Samuel Paty was killed by a suspected Islamist after showing cartoons of Prophet Mohammad to his class. Five teenagers are charged with identifying the teacher to his killer for payment.

The trial of six teenagers linked to the 2020 beheading of teacher Samuel Paty — a case that shocked France — begins on Monday in Paris.

Paty, a 47-year-old history and geography teacher, was stabbed and then beheaded near his secondary school in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine by an 18-year-old suspected radical Islamist, who was identified as Abdoullakh A.

The assailant, a Russian-born Chechen refugee, was shot dead by the police soon after the attack.

The teens — aged 14 to 15 at the time — face charges of criminal conspiracy and false accusation, with possible sentences of up to 2.5 years.

The trial is set to be held in juvenile court until December 8, and is part of a wider investigation that includes eight adults.

What are the charges against the teenagers?

Five teenagers facing trial in juvenile court are charged with identifying Paty to his killer for payment.

The sixth, aged 13 then, faces charges for falsely claiming Paty singled out Muslim students before showing controversial cartoons after it was established that she was not in class when the incident occurred.

"The role of the minors was fundamental in the sequence of events that led to his assassination," said Virginie Le Roy, a lawyer representing Paty's family.

During questioning, the teens stated they only expected Paty to face online criticism or minor physical harm, and did not imagine "it would go as far as murder."

The trial of eight adults involved in the murder is set for next year, with details from the juvenile trial remaining confidential until then.

France's interior minister said police had "courageously arrested" an assailant who was attacking passers-by in central Paris. Gerald Darmanin later said a German tourist had been killed.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said late on Saturday that a German tourist had been killed and another person injured in central Paris. 

"The police have just courageously arrested an assailant attacking passers-by in Paris, around the Quai de Grenelle," Darmanin wrote. "One deceased person and one injured person treated by the Paris Fire Brigade. Please avoid the area." 

The Quai de Grenelle, on the banks of the River Seine, is not far from the Eiffel Tower in the center of France's capital.

What do we know about the attack and attacker? 

Darmanin spoke to reporters at the scene later Saturday night. 

He said that the attacker first attacked a "couple" who were German tourists with a knife near Quai de Grenelle, killing one and injuring the other. 

The assailant then crossed the Bir-Hakeim bridge over the Seine, with police arriving on the scene as he reached the other side. 

Darmanin said the suspect then tried to attack two more people with a hammer while pursued by police, injuring one and leaving the other shocked.

"After his arrest, he said that he could no longer bear Muslims dying in Afghanistan as well as in the Palestinian Territories," Darmanin said of the attacker. 

The minister said the man had a prior four-year conviction from 2016, when French authorities foiled attack plans. 

Darmanin said the country's terrorism prosecution authority was already evaluating the case but had not yet launched a formal terrorism investigation. 

France raised terrorism alert level in October

French news agency AFP cited unnamed police sources as saying the assailant was French-born and a French citizen, and also a known supporter of radical Islam with mental health issues. Unconfirmed reports suggested the attacker had shouted the Arabic for "God is great" during the attack. 

Several European countries, including France and Germany, have issued warnings of a heightened threat of Islamist attacks in recent weeks amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

France also raised its terror threat alert level in October, soon after Hamas' October 7 attacks in Israel, when a teacher was attacked and killed in class. A few days later, the Louvre art museum and the palace of Versailles were evacuated amid a bomb threat.

Nantes (France) (AFP) – A fan of Ligue 1 club Nantes has died after being stabbed before the club's 1-0 win over Nice, the public prosecutor in the western French city confirmed on Sunday.

The fatality occurred when several vehicles transporting Nice supporters were attacked by rival Nantes fans while on their way to the Beaujoire stadium before Saturday's game.

According to a source close to the case, the supporter may have been stabbed by one of the vehicle drivers.

The attacker turned himself in at a police station later in the evening, the daily Ouest France newspaper reported.

The death comes against a backdrop of tensions and recent incidents on the sidelines of Ligue 1 matches.

Two Brest supporters were injured a week ago when their bus was targeted by projectiles after the club's 3-1 victory in Montpellier.

At the end of October, Lyon's team bus was stoned on its approach to Marseille's Velodrome stadium and coach Fabio Grosso was left with cuts to the face that required stitches.

The incidents led to the match being called off just as it was supposed to kick off and with 60,000 fans already in the grounds.
