Mikel2 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Though, isn't the big radar dish hanging over the rear end when folded down? Looks damage prone to me when driving through the forest.Folded ,and if Poland decides to restart Loara project the turret could become unmanned. How mobile is the T72 chassis compared to the Leo 1?
Chris Werb Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Perhaps South Korea could sell Poland some of these (unlikely for a number of reasons, including close Russian-ROK cooperation in weapons developmentm such as the new K-SAM system), but one can dream.

Not very mobile truth to be told, especially if we talk about moving also on reverse gear. And T-72 is not very comfortable for a driver. On the other hand Loara chassis was deeply redesigned, probably used some upgrades from various PT-91 variants.
Panzermann Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Hull looks raised, so the driver can sit more upright I guess. Though the driving controls are the same most probably and then there is still the issue of the simple gear box with only one very slow reverse gear. The Bundeswehr definitely tested the DDR NVA tanks and other material, but sadly they are very reluctant with publishing results.

There's another youtube video of the same footage that says the footage is from a showing at a briefing room in Seoul on April 19th, 2012. The BM is Hyunmoo 2 and the video description says it has a range of 300km, although there are longer range Hyunmoo 2 models. The cruise missile is Hyunmoo 3 and depending on the model, it has a range of either 500km, 1,000km, or 1,500km. Doesn't say which model is in the video. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyunmoo Edited September 12, 2016 by JasonJ
Kadrun Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 (edited) Another good news for Korea and all K9 and its varient users!Finland will most likely to join K9 club with deal of 48 used K9.The deal is 200 million dollars, which includes 200 million worth technology transfer of maintenance systems. Edited November 23, 2016 by Kadrun
Damian Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Would be great, in such case Poland can become service center for K9 based chassis in Europe, as we already purchased manufacturing capabilities.
Kadrun Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 My bad, wrong info on the price. The deal is 400 million, which includes 200 million worth technology transfer (maintenance).
Kadrun Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 More info, the price on each unit is almost identical to the brand new piece. The price includes PIP upgrade fee once PIP is finalized in developing.
Kadrun Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Finland is offering Estonia to join its K9 Thunder purchase!
Gregory Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Finland is offering Estonia to join its K9 Thunder purchase! Makes sense.
M48A5K Posted December 9, 2016 Author Posted December 9, 2016 There's a rumour that Australian DoD and Hanwha defense negotiated the purchase of K21 in june this year. Also yesterday someone saw a banner with K21 and aussie flag drawn on it, at Hanwha derense booth in Daejeon Convention Centre.
JasonJ Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 Hi M48A5K, It seems like Australia is still considering IFV proposals for the "phase 3" part of their Land 400 program. After June, it looks like Australia was still looking at some options such as CV90 entering proposal stage in September and also reported in September that General Dynamics was looking to make some proposals. Giving that, maybe Lynx is still being looked into as well. There is a Tank-Net thread about the Australian Land 400 program, although it hasn't been updated in a while.
Gavin-Phillips Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Nice footage of those ROK SPH's in action. As someone who isn't a tanker, what's the high-pitched whining noise when the camera is up close to the vehicle just prior to firing? I thought it was my speakers at first...! The media doesn't seem to have said much about North Korea for a while now (not that I actively go trawling for it). Have they said much about these latest training exercises?

The description in the first video is very long but the first paragraph says something like that the winter exercises by the South Korean Army forces are a response to North Korea showing off winter exercises involving the North Korean air craft and special forces.
Kadrun Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Yes there's news article that Estonia agreed to purchase K9 Thunder along with Finland's order.
Kadrun Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 http://www.janes.com/article/67827/finland-buys-k9-howitzers-from-south-korea It's official. Finland will purchase 48 used K9 Thunder. All used systems will go through overhaul, and to be refurbished as brand new standard.
Dark_Falcon Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Yes there's news article that Estonia agreed to purchase K9 Thunder along with Finland's order. Indeed, the projected order is 24 systems. Enough for a battalion of 18, plus 6 more for training and replacements.
Kadrun Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Official name for K9 Thunder for Fin is K9FIN Moukari "Sledge-hammer"

Kadrun Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Official name for K9 Thunder for Fin is K9FIN Moukari "Sledge-hammer"difference to the korean model?Maybe. What is 100% sure is, all used K9 will go complete overhaul before the transfer. Korea is scheduled to receive all pieces by 2018~2019, and will go under major upgrades right after (confirmed since years ago).I do not think Finland will be receiving upgraded version, but most likely guaranteed to receive upgrades later on.
