Corinthian Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) I'm looking to make the fenders on my RC M1 working. Here's a photo of one such fender: Better pic: I reckon the rod is a spring. Wot I need is a material that can act like such a spring on a 1/16 scale. Any ideas? Edited August 21, 2015 by Corinthian
sunday Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Yes. Fake it. Unles you could get your hands on some superelastic Nitinol, better use a rubber fender.
Corinthian Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 Thanks for mentioning Nitinol. I googled and apparently there's some on Amazon. Hmmmm....
bojan Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I used good umbrella wires as semi-decent torsion springs, but I am not sure if scale is right.
Corinthian Posted August 21, 2015 Author Posted August 21, 2015 I'll check if I got a broken umbrella. Thanks for the idea, bojan!I just found a thick-ish guitar string. Looks just about right. Currently modifying the fender. Hopefully tomorrow it'll be ready for testing with the guitar string ala fender spring.

Corinthian Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 I ended up with wot I have around - guitar string. The modified fender:
wilhelm Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 If you have any old domestic machinery lying around, you will be amazed what resides in them. Washing machines, old kitchen appliances, video machines etc...even clothes pegs often yield interesting material if you are interested in models or model engineering.

I have a particular hobby, manufacturing things, and basically can't walk past an old discarded machine without having a look inside, no matter how unrelated it is.You are clearly of the same mind.
