Because, Germany

Well whatever ideals there are, many Europeans seem to be getting fed up with immigration for fair reasons, or at least, that's my impression.

Hm, thing is that loudmouths don't only exist at world of tanks. And newspaper being newspapers they tell the extraordinary.

That being said there's a problem all right: if forecasts are to be believed "we" might get some 0.5% (450,000) of the population as asylum seekers this year alone. Thats a logistic nightmare all in itself even if we're only talking about registration, accommodation and processing of the applications. School gyms have been modified to house them and this caused quite a media uproar. Well, and as sure as the sun rises the usual suspecs rose to the call of "Überfremdung" and "Deutschland den Deutschen" and emergency accomodations are burned to the ground. Again, if I might say so - I still vividly remember the pictures of Hoyerswerda where the official statement of the police was that (after some nights of ever increasing aggressiveness against an lodging of asylum seekers) they were "suprised" that the house was really burned down.

And just like back then the same a$$holes from the same political parties now claim to be shocked by this - after months of verbal arson. But only verbal, see? Here in bavaria this method is so common it even made it into a byword: "ma sagt ja nix, ma red ja blos" (we didn't say anything, we only talked).

'nuff said.

So fundamentally, I don't think we're in disagreement but just that I lack specific knowledge (like what you provided) therefore I have a crude understanding of it.

Well, I really don't know much about it either, but let me give you a final anecdote:

I was responsible for the drawings for the ceiling scaffolding for the pinakothek der moderne. As it was both a public and expensive building the bavarian prime minister took it up to himself (good PR) to make the speech during the roofing ceremony.

Well at that time there was a big hush about foreign workers at construction sites, so he didn't miss the opportunity to point out that the pinakothek demonstrated that it was still possible to erect buildings with german work force ( "...deutsche ... deutsche ... deutsche..." - your typical right wingleter1) ).

I stood right beside one of the construction managers who commented to himself "Gee, aren't we lucky that our poles (the workforce) are sightseeing in munich today!"

So much for knowledgeable politicians.

1) like a right-winger, only even more so.

Poles and Russians are not considered "Ausländer" anymore. They have a similar cultural and religious ( Christian, atheist, socialist ) background and will become German pretty soon and thoroughly.

Anectodes are many.

Don´t overkill the right-winger or wingleter ( never heard that before) too much, because perhaps if chickens ever come home to roost - as is said, then they will be needed to be blamed for everything, and they are fairly scarce as it is.

I think my brother #4 was at that event with a Polish friend, who proceeded to give the speaker her opinion afterwards. :D

As usual, there's lots of hypocrisy by various camps to go around in the refugee issue. I haven't heard much of the enraged masses who tend to leave no doubt about their opinion when leftist mobs wreak havoc after these neo-Nazis clashed with police in Heidenau. On the other hand, I never heard those who demand to call those who attack refugee shelters terrorists say the same about the folks who threw a molotov into the entrance of a Berlin police precinct where a cleaner was standing after thoughtfully spreading caltrops atround the building some years ago, or the ones who indulge in losening the wheelnuts on private cars of Bundeswehr soldiers (this has happened to my brother #5, though fortunately with no ill effects). I also note that the same who always complain about aggressive behavior of police at leftists demonstrations complain that police is not doing enough now, and they have no issue with establishing a security zone around the Heidenau shelter where police can check ID without probable cause and issue expulsion orders, unlike when the same was done in Hamburg after repeated attacks on police last year.

The Bavarian Conservative's stance against an immigration law, even if it just consolidates already-existing legislation, seems purely ideological and clinging to the pretense that Germany is not a country of immigration, when we are in fact now second only to the US in that respect. An author who's originally from Saxony also pointed out on Spiegel Online that in 1989, lots of people from that area made for the West were they were received with great solidarity. Of course the comparison is not really fair since DDR citizens were always considered Germans there, but nonetheless West Germany was suddenly faced with masses of newcomers who were supported at considerable expense, and Westerners subsequently paid and continue to pay lots of money to prop up the East; and while of course many in the West have complained about this burden over the years, nobody met DDR refugees with posters of "no refuge here" or firebombed shelters; neither was political oppression the only motivation for the stampede west. Prior to re-unification, there were demonstrations in the DDR with a different kind of posters, reading "If the D-Mark comes we stay here, if it doesn't we'll move there".

BTW I believe it was the same author who has taken the same thought to the Eastern EU members who have received a lot of solidarity in building up their countries with money from the older members in the west and south, and now refuse to take an appropriate share of the refugee crisis with remarkable statements like "we really can't, we have indications that several hundred thousand Ukrainians might come here if fighting there intensifies" or "we might take 1,500, but only Christians please because there are no mosques in our country". Which is a rather refreshing angle to report for a site where authors have been recently betraying a rather disgustingly hopefull expectation that some refugees will be killed in xenophobic attacks so that they can ingnite the ultimate stage of their moral outrage about German attitude. Of course we all know that bad news sell, and it's no surprise the rioters and arsonists get most of the coverage even though for every demonstration against refugees, there are 20 actions by volunteers to support them, as Bundestag speaker Norbert Lammert recently said. In fact I was surprised that ARD evening news recently devoted several minutes to coverage of such volunteers, which I believe was a conscious decision.

Also not quite fitting the attempts to blame Germany and the federal government in particular for the way it is receiving the downtrodden masses, Angela Merkel seems to have become the subject of utter adoration in Arab-language social media after Syrian refugees misconstrued the reports about Germany expecting up to 800,000 refugees this year and it having stopped deportations of Syrians to original EU countries of entry under the Dublin Agreement as "Germany will take 800,000 Syrians". Which apparently has led to a rapid increase in detentions in Hungary since people who previously attempted to cross clandestinely now cheerfully report to authorities with the intention to go to Germany.

See the US for example.

German sausages are the wurst.

If it was not for Germany, Americans would not get to dine in wonderfully tacky decorated restaurants that guarantee to bring you the "German experience", like the Bayern Stube in Gibson City IL. Despite the decor, they really do serve some good food. lol During Oktoberfest they even import special beers in addition to their regular selection of German beers, which you can drink while listening to the live Oompah band.

In 2006 I had lunch at a food kiosk near Brandenburg Gate. Then it was a Donner Kebab. In 2012, in the same place, they sold Currywurst. Commented that to Axel's uncle. We had a laugh.
