Ssnake
I couldn't really understand what was being discussed. My impression was, "no flag waving here, in front of the horses" (as a reaction to the equine incident a few days ago). But maybe I missed a few crucial bits. Stuart Galbraith
She says at the end 'not so much the British army' as if her grievence wasnt with them. Of course, nothing to say she couldnt, or shouldnt, be waving the thing outside the Israel embassy.
Stuart Galbraith
Considering they took down a Sword armed maniac just 20 minutes after being called, I fail to see what else they could be equipped with that would have done any better.

Stuart Galbraith
Well, SLR's. OBVIOUSLY the SLR's. The problem is its just going to get in the way every time they go shopping in Tesco's for doughnuts.
DB
If you're not familiar with the story that prompted the swords comment - A 14 year old boy has been killed in Hainault (NE London) and two police officers severely injured after someone armed with what looks like a Japanese style curved blade (it looks shorter than a katana to me) crashed his car into another vehicle and then went a bit postal (the story is still fresh, so the details are fairly random at the moment, although there is a lot of footage available - I'm not posting it here.) Seeing reports that one police officer has lost a hand. The limitations of tasers are quite apparent, in the takedown - several layers of clothing worn. I count at least three hits before they restrained him.

DB
An update: The (female) police officer "nearly" lost a hand - provisionally saved after several hours of surgery.
Stuart Galbraith
Kudos to her and the other one for giving it a go, I'm sure they saved lives.

A hegemony implies a different structure. No allegiance to a crown, an implied amount of influence and give and take in the way the power works. The UK is still an Empire, just smaller than it was. Multiple kingdoms united under a common crown with other subordinate monarchs or lesser nobilities implies such as well. The US has no nobility. Honestly, 5.56 caliber bolt actions with a folding stock, detachable magazine, pic rail, and a decent optic and iron sights would be reasonably compact and handy. Several examples that use STANAG m16 magazines exist. So you have commonality with MOD needs and supply, but can also have smaller 5,10,15 and 20 Round magazines. Go with an LPVO or 3 power red dot. But you had the Vanderbilts, Rockerfellers, Kennedy's, today you have the Trumps, the Clinton's, the Obama's, and even, God help you, the Kardashian's. Now there is Taylor Swift. And these people, to more or lesser an extent, do have real influence, at least as much as our Earls or Dukes ever had. In the case of Taylor Swift, maybe even more. The problem is not that America remembers what it was. Ive no doubt it was everything you just said there. But it very definately is not what it is now. This is America 2.0, and what it is, is still up for grabs.
