Stuart Galbraith Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Or depending on how you look at it, the best!
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Yeah well, I find my compensations where I can find them. I live in a post industrial country. Its former factory based cities, once the workshop of Empire, are home for crime, drugtaking, with youths stabbing themselves to death with monotonous regularity. I see a bunch of wholly indifferent twats whom somehow managed to make the whole cycle much worse by destroying the welfare state, reducing police on the beat, then managing to destroy our trade links with our best trading partner, Europe. I remember what it was like to grow up in the 1980's, the last time this happened. You could see drunks lying on every major city, in doorways, begging for change. Shops shut, factories closed. But back then, there was still hope that it would change for the better. In 2008, I can remember a talkshow despairing of the whole cycle beginning again. But this time its worse. Because now thats 2 or 3 generations of former working class families that have now got stuck in a cycle of deprivation, lack of work, crime, indifference. And now they dont believe even a change of Government will save them. So children getting drunk? I dont blame them. If I was 40 years younger, Id probably be joining them. No, its not remotely funny. But forgive me pointing out, you lack the British sense of humour that will happily take the piss out of anything, no matter how black. Because frankly, at this point, what have we got left? Nothing. Not even hope. And that is why I take the piss out of it.
rmgill Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 (edited) Wait, you think the welfare state makes things better? What does destroying the welfare state look like? Edited April 25, 2024 by rmgill
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 For people that dont have anything else? of course it does. What do you want them to do, set up rookeries and start impressing 12 year old pickpockets? Thats what they did last time. Case in point, they recently reduced financial assistance to the disabled, to try and force them back to work. Then they go and reduce the funding assistance to help the disabled back to work. This is what passes for joined up thinking under this Government. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67385385 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/07/first-edition-welfare-cuts-disability-work-capability-assessments Before you say im acting like a typical socialist again, at least one conservative MP resigned over this. There is a fair few of them that find the drive against the welfare state wholly unacceptable, and their only fault is that it took them 14 years and the brink of an election for them to admit it.

The “Better Call Saul” actor, 61, found out on a new episode of the PBS show “Finding Your Roots” that he’s actually related to King Charles III. While Odenkirk’s spot will air Tuesday evening, Rolling Stone scored a clip from the show that featured the star learning about his lineage. Host Henry Louis Gates Jr. divulged that the British monarch, 75, and the “Breaking Bad” alum are 11th cousins. Just another pipe hitting member of the tribe.

Maybe getting folks to do something if they can is actually good for them? By the same token, you're paying immigrants money to not work. How does that work when you're not paying for your own disabled? Why not pay everyone and just tax everyone at 100%?

It will shock you to realise, I'm not your personal.researcher. Once again, you are channelling your expectations based on Democrats. Yes, I'm all for people working. As long as there is work they can do where they live. You think your rust belt deindustrialised? 45 years ahead of you here. Around me used to be dozens of large employers. All we have now is Costa coffee and high end boutiques for the rich. Or antique shops. My local town was known as antique town 40 years ago by cbers. Its got worse since then. As my father once related to me, the Conservatives once put people in coal country on disabled support so they wouldn't have to add them to the jobless total. They helped create this dependency culture. Now they want to end it because the sums don't add up. I'm supposed to be impressed? 3 hours ago, Murph said: Well..... rmgill Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 (edited) What you don’t realize about MAGA was it had factories building in the US based on the economic environment. How about your lot try to get the industries back? And I ask questions as part of dialogue. That thing I am accused not to do while at the same time being accused of too many socratic questions. That presumably that isnt the ones, like Harley Davidson, that were busy relocating abroad? How? That would fly wholly against Conservative dogma that 'you dont interfere in the free market'. What you are advocating is SOCIALISM! Dont you feel a little bit grubby, agreeing with things ive been saying for the last 25 years? Bill B would be chewing you out right about now. Ah, gotcha. Im slow to pick up on such things, you probably ought to follow it with a tagline 'contains elements of so socratism'. 2 hours ago, rmgill said: We're not an empire. We're a hegemony. No, you are an Empire, and you are making the key mistake of all Empires thinking it will all go on forever without you doing anything. Im not judging, I rather like Pax Americana. I dont think its quite as colourful or as aesthetic as Pax Britannica, but the excitement in your politics is truly unmatchable by anything our bunch of old farts ever did.
Ivanhoe Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 https://pjmedia.com/catherinesalgado/2024/04/29/iranian-arrested-in-uk-for-calling-hamas-terrorist-praises-israel-jews-n4928593 Quote An Iranian man recently arrested by UK police for going to an anti-Israel protest with a sign correctly identifying Hamas as terrorists is not daunted by wrongful arrest. He once again took to the streets of London to express his public support for Israel and his encouragement to Jewish people to be proud of their religion and nation.
Ssnake Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Just an isolated case of an overly eager police officer, wrongly incentivzed to meet his arrest quota, obviously.
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Jesus Chris, I swear they are going to have to start introducing intelligence tests into the MET. Its indefensible, obviously. To be fair to them, some of them get it right. Two policemen today got injured taking down a man armed with a knife, whom stabbed 6 people, killing one of them, a 13 year old boy. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/hainault-13-year-old-boy-confirmed-dead-in-east-london-sword-attack-latest-updates/ar-AA1nUQbY Most likely another poster boy for care in the community.

I doubt its a matter of intelligence, seems like a question of value system (though a lot of plod here in the US are pretty dense; but an over-supply of knotheads is usually due to an over-demand for knotheads).
rmgill Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Obviously the officers involved don’t have a politicized view.
Stuart Galbraith Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Never blame on conspiracy, that you can easily blame on stupidity. When you look at the murder of Sarah Everard, you know the MET is not keeping up numbers by just retaining the brightest and the best.
