As for the Korean birth rate, I kinda expect that there are correlations between cost of living and also population density, with the birth rate and average maternal age.

I think those are factors but also things like "BTS Army" related fixations are part of it. I think the culture broke in the pursuit of money and status in extreme materialism that goes across a multitude of industries.

I think you might be on to something here.  The wife and I watch a LOT of K-Dramas, and this money and status thing seems to be pretty much on the nose.

I think Japan has a similar problem. But South Korea took it to another level. The drama characters and music groups are fantasy ideal people one wants to have, or at least, just fantasize to have. And they become fans and followers. And live a lifestyle that revolves around that. Averge Park (or averge Kento) can't compete. And then what was a young cute 14 year old, 19 year old, 24, 28, 31, 35, 40.. then too late.

That would explain why the "passport bro" phenomenon does not seem to involve a lot of Korean brides. The bros are trying to get away from the demanding gold-digger mindset so prevalent here.

The problem with the 'passport bro' movement (if you can call it that... never seen numbers on how many have done this) is that the folks I've seen push for it argue it's about going to countries where traditional values still reign... but in reality all the countries you see pushed are poorer nations where the 'bro' is going to be relatively wealthy compared to the local men.

Lately I've noticed a trend to permanently move to these countries.  The reason likely being to maintain that appearance of wealth.  The original 'passport bros' were US military who married foreign wives and brought them back.  I've seen enough of those marriages end in divorce to know that's no guarantee of finding a good partner.

Next likely president.

As President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law raises the possibility of an early presidential election, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has emerged as the leading candidate for the presidency.

A survey conducted by Media Research and commissioned by the news agency Newspim polled 1,007 men and women aged 18 and older nationwide using an automatic response system (ARS) on Sunday. Respondents were asked, “Among the following individuals, who do you think is most suitable to be the next president?” The results showed Lee Jae-myung leading decisively with 52.4 percent.

Trailing behind, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, received 9.8 percent, followed by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at 6.7 percent, Cho Kuk, leader of the Rebuilding Korea Party, at 5.5 percent,
