Yes. Is “goat polo” official name? Russian name for it is “козлодрание» - literally meaning “tearing goat apart” – more accurate description of the process

Political correctness, Russia knows it not, and I find that pretty ironic.

They might as well go the whole hog and used Michelle's face for the father there....

"goat polo" I used as more of a descriptive. But in the end it is a sport on horse back with a goat instead of a ball. So kind of polo.

I know it under the persian name "buzkashi" otherwise. As it is known in Afghanistan as well I think.

And people are upset because of British fox hunts...

It is known across all Central Asia and nomadic regions of Russia and in fact there are two different games with different names, Buzakshi (“goat pulling”) and CockBory (“grey wolf”) (but difference is not clear for me). Anyway in both games goat is already dead and headless before game started – so no animal suffering (if not taking horses into account)

My only hope left is that the poor goat died with her virtue intact.

Funny. Crude, but funny. Lucky no coffee was in my mouth

Wasn't human heads also been used from time to time?

.

IIRC live prisoners were used before. Of course they didn't end up live soon.... By Mongols IIRC. And Afghans. ISTR Afghans did play such a game with a Soviet prisoner....

Not sure if it is "Russia" or "US" - latest diplomatic fashion

He might just be US or Russian diplomatic security and forgot to take his beanie off when he came in from the cold. It looks like there might be a stock of a weapon poking out behind him when he moves his right arm, cant really tell for sure.

Guys, where are you getting it from? Origin of “Grey wolf” version of the game is typical monadic winter hunt on wolfs when mounted men chasing wolf in deep snow before wolf get so tired he could be reached by one of hunters and killed by wooden stick – then, as trophy was carried back to the “village” hunters where struggling to get hold of dead wolf (just to show each other how strong and skilled they are). When “village” was close wolf was returned to men who killed him. Nomads got lots of historical nasty ways to deal with prisoners (much more nasty), no need to invent others.

Too light for weapon of that side (jacket is staying quite loose) – probably foldable umbrella or something like this. He is USian as he came from the street (not waiting inside) and got badge. Not sure if he is security, but probably with some background of that.

It's a Central Asian tradition IIRC. I remember reading these in National Geographic (before they went south) and other accounts.

Besides, considering how humans can be, ah, imaginative in dealing pain and punishment to others, it isn't really a far out idea if these games were played using prisoners. As you say, nomads have lots of historical ways to deal with prisoners. Wot's the problem adding this one? Perhaps it happened once, twice, a few times here and there, separated by time and space, and witnessed first stand which was told as a cautionary tale and such. It's not far fetched really.

Body weight and absence of hair suitable to grab is limitation - imagine trying to grab person from the ground while mounted (meaning: by one hand). Child or light-weight female could be used, but not adult man.

There are clothes, ya know....

Plus, being emaciated, beaten up, and those folks on horseback - while not some ubermensch - have lived hard lives carrying bundles of wood, supplies, etc. Not too far fetched.

I think you are making something from nothing - it is like linking football origins with kicking heads.

Daniel Dravot: Billy Fish, do they always use such a big ball?

Billy Fish: Depend on size of man's head. Big head, big ball, small head, small ball. That Bashki man. Oh big damn head.
